至于说“混吃等死”，其实说开了大部分职位都是这样，公司里面的更是这样。
尤其是大公司里面的研究人员，大部分都是在混。
至于说上升的空间？你拿的这个职位并不比公司里面的研究职位空间小。
公司里面的其实也就是junior scientist -> senior scientist->director,
而你已经跨过前面几步直接成了director了，虽然以后头衔可能不会变
（都到顶了，还怎么变？），但是工资是可以升的，而且也可以跳槽到更好
的大学去，也可以拿这个头衔回国去吓人。
如果你乐意作研究的话，也可以申请和你的本职工作相关的课题来自己做的。
当然如果你属于那种不折腾不舒服的那种人，非要感受一下升级的喜悦的话，
也可以在第一年自行命名自己为junior director, 然后第二年为senior director, 第
三年为managing director，第四年为和executive director
...等等等等，反正怎么乐怎么来就好了。在我理解中，你应该就是该
facility的老板，所以你要手下这么称呼 |

今天早上director给我打电话了，主要表达了三个意思，
1是他和男生的父母见过面了，当面问了这个boy情况，他承认是这样的。他的父母帮他
写了一封道歉信，早上交给了我女儿。
2是这两个男孩会去别的地方午睡。
3是两次抓人的是个白小孩，这次加了一个黑小孩。director说这个黑的平常很温顺，
这次可能受了白小孩子的影响，也和父母谈过了，也强调了严重性，说孩子意识到这样
做不对，但是没有道歉信。
可以说，director的这通电话我本来是比较满意的，我唯一目的就是那两个孩子再也不
能靠近我女儿。
但是看着大家的回复，我也反思我的态度，觉得最重要的一点是，我女儿为什么不报告
老师，老师为什么看不见？因为他们并不是连在一起，只是在一个教室。跑来跑去，老
师在干嘛？她在学校确实比较安静，但在家里很活泼，教育弟弟一板一眼，很有章法。
因为她是女孩，所以我和LD都是宠着她多一些。
虽然我接受了director的建议，但还是去看别的学校了。希望尽快能定下来。
LD要求director写一封书面的accident report。我正准备打电话说这事情。 |

. 由于director和同事之前就认识，所以很多的事情就只给他做。比如像写个大的程序
什么的，简单的像数据库的升级就派给我做。就是感觉不太平衡，因为同事很多的命令
还得来问我，而且要不是今天上午manager给我说同事的程序运行的不错，我还不知道
director和同事在搞一个大的程序，只前还一直纳闷为什么同事问我这么多技术上的问
题呢。。。
请教各位需不需要让director知道其实同事的很多问题都是问的我，还有就是怎么才能
让director也分配一些好的活给我。 平时做做简单的活，日子清闲也就罢了，但是现
在job market这么紧张， 要是弄得不好万一公司要刷人就要刷到我头上了。。。多谢

新上任的Director给主管领导做年度Review（两位都是白女），需要我提供意见。主要
侧重于领导能力，沟通能力，组织能力，决策能力等方面。
我的主管领导在这个职位工作了4年了，Director来到这个部门3年，他们之前是平级的
。最近部门人事变化比较大，走了2位高层，这位Directore连升三级。我的主管领导对
我非常好，也非常照顾。不过她在工作上确实有一些问题，这可能也是她一直没能得到
重用的原因。Director说是保密的，但还是有些顾虑。不知道是应该很客观的表达，还
是应该仅仅说好的方面。如果仅仅说好的，害怕director认为我没有什么见解，但有怕

中大公司，engineering部门的director一般是二线或者以上的manager，管理多个团队
，direct reports一般是一线manager和一些资深技术人员（arch, princpal, fellow
之类的）。具体工作主要是strategy planning，resource allocation, budget
control之类的管理工作，很多会议，不太进行具体技术工作了。一般有自己的cost
center，P&L resp和人事权。属于比较有实权的中层管理者。
需要什么水平就不好说了。反正公司认为你能干，你就能干，认为你不能干，你就只能
去别的公司干。 |

以前，CMG做Fellowship program director（尤其病理）时有所闻，但做Residency
Program Director 和Dept. Chair的并不多见。但近年来，也开始有了。我在此开个

在美in practice of medicine 的CMGs 比老印及其他国家医学院毕业生少， 有历史

各位兄弟姐妹们好：
女儿在幼儿园被同一个boy把手伸到衣服里抓。大概半年前发生过一次，我发现女儿的
衣服上面有星星点点的血点，一检查她的背，有十几个有洞的抓痕，新的旧的，有的竟
然是黑色的。我非常内疚，没有在第一时间发现。
去找幼儿园交涉，director和teacher都非常慎重地开了会，并特别和孩子们强调如果
有anything hurt,一定要告诉老师。事情发生在午睡时间。
昨天看到她背上又有抓痕，没有上次严重，但也是四个。我问她，她说是同一个boy.他
们其实在两个班，但是暑假期间孩子不多，所以在一块午睡。还是在午睡时间。
早上和director再交流。他的态度倒也诚恳，但是老美的这种外交辞令我也听够了，就
说会和对方家长谈，但是也提到过七个星期孩子们就不午睡了，在一起的时间并不多。

whereas director is best at bitmap based ones. flash is
mainly built for the web only, that's why u don't see it
much else where. director has the ability to access other
appz, like a database, and its files can be distributed as
.exe. that's why most educational and multimedia cds r built
by director. director has a more powerful language called
lingo. although flash 5's actionscript has improved a lot,
it's still not as powerful as lingo. |

president, the NCI director will send a letter of resignation and the new
president will approve it (appoint a new one) or disapprove it.
In general, presidential appointment of NCI director is not a good thing for
this institute because it is affected by politics much more than other

本人phd 在读，大概2年以后毕业
考虑将来去clinical lab （clinical microbiology）
目标：director
专业：微生物
因为孩子还小，加上科研投入的精力大收入不高，不愿意继续全职做科研。当初上学念
书也是因为要等绿卡还有clinical lab director需要博士学历。看了一些医院和NIH的
training program，不知道能不能跳到clinical biochemistry，这个方向招phd做
director多些。本人更喜欢微生物，生化也挺喜欢的。有没有什么公司也有这种
program，还是只能去医院或者NIH。前辈们能不能说说通往罗马之路
另外，我想打听一下参加完training拿到certificate之后的工作机会，还有director
的待遇情况，工作时间（很忙还是朝九晚五）。如果是specialist的话，待遇情况大概
如何，还有一般什么背景的做specialist，工作机会。
如果这条路不是一个很好的选择，我会着手去industry的准备 |

好奇问一下，大家觉得Top10名校的Full Professor和Top10投行的Managing Director
，哪个在各自的领域成就和社会地位更高一些？更牛一些？或者说学术界的人和公司的
人互相跳槽的时候，大致应该瞄准什么样的位置。
学校的Asst Prof, Asso Prof和Full Prof与公司里的什么level比较接近？
我觉得Top10名校的Full Professor和Top10投行的Managing Director，或者
Fortune100的AVP级别应该差不多牛。
