本人phd 在读，大概2年以后毕业
考虑将来去clinical lab （clinical microbiology）
目标：director
专业：微生物
因为孩子还小，加上科研投入的精力大收入不高，不愿意继续全职做科研。当初上学念
书也是因为要等绿卡还有clinical lab director需要博士学历。看了一些医院和NIH的
training program，不知道能不能跳到clinical biochemistry，这个方向招phd做
director多些。本人更喜欢微生物，生化也挺喜欢的。有没有什么公司也有这种
program，还是只能去医院或者NIH。前辈们能不能说说通往罗马之路
另外，我想打听一下参加完training拿到certificate之后的工作机会，还有director
的待遇情况，工作时间（很忙还是朝九晚五）。如果是specialist的话，待遇情况大概
如何，还有一般什么背景的做specialist，工作机会。
如果这条路不是一个很好的选择，我会着手去industry的准备 |

knowledge, because the job market is so small, it is as hard as becoming a

whatever training program, to be their lab director?
位子太少太少，一个萝卜一个坑，为什么不用人脉已经想当深厚的also have degree的
老职工呢？
年轻人想在医疗领域一毕业就一步登天太不现实了：）。

第一，我不年轻
第二，training program是clinical pathology lab提供的，说明了接受有phd学位的
人申请，两年的training，之后考certificate，然后自己找位置。我也看到很多
clinical lab 的director是phd出身。
第三，做一个clinical lab director也不是什么特别特别好的职位，混口饭吃而已，
临床实验室的工作都是为医生服务，lab director的收入相对医生来说算不高的吧，不
然这些位置也不会去招phd出身的人，谈不上在医疗领域一步登天
第四，我有我自己的经历和优点，不试过怎么知道我肯定不行呢，我只是想多收集信息
，希望自己能做一个比较客观的职业规划，再着手自己认为值得的事情
不过，还是要谢谢你提供的信息，位置比较少，但也不是没有

不可,而且MD的临床经验,比PhD的科研经验,更受欢迎.
所以,位子不多是一个因素,有兴趣的MD很多也是要考虑.
除了biochemistry方向,还有其他方向,但都是同一个问题,粥少僧多,你又来晚了----竞争不比考baord小,有兴趣雇director的老板不多,因为太贵了. |

of an MD.
Given that, the job itself is not easy. You have to master all the lab
technologies, i.e. you need to know how to do when a senior lab technician
cannot handle the situation. You have to communicate well with infectious
disease doctors, which could be challenging for a PhD. It is a director
position which means you have to be good at lab management. During endemic
season, you have to work with local health department. The positions are
generally available in big labs, likely tertiary centers or reference labs.
Small labs will not hire a separate director. The biggest hurdle for LZ could
be language skill, medical knowledge and people skill. After all, everything
is possible if you work hard enough. |

竞争不比考baord小,有兴趣雇director的老板不多,因为太贵了.

我在国内学医学检验，也在医院工作过，国内上的学校和工作的医院还好，来美国纯粹
是为了另一半。所以，还好，受过一定的医学培训，有一点工作经验，另外自己挺喜欢
这个行业。原来在国内做学生的时候就梦想着将来有一天能handle检验科，当然现在人
在美国这个目标不现实，但是，如果能最终做到lab director，我也心满意足了。如果
不是因为这个想法，当初也不会决定念phd，一直在实验室做technician就行了。你说
的关于一个director需要的能力，我会尽力弥补，再次感谢！

率也高。 |
