发帖数: 14281 | 3 既然有人争论方的学术水平，就上网搜了一下。应该说这个水平对于一个junior
faculty来说可以算是很牛B了，但是对于老方这种senior的已经搞了一辈子的人来说，
就只能算so so。不要说是院士，离aps fellow的级别也还差了不少。引用率最高的一
篇文章还是95年到了arizona之后跟老外合作的，被引118次，这也是方唯一一篇被引用
上百次的文章。可见方励之89之前确实没有做出过什么重要的工作，他的名声和地位绝
对是靠政治得来的，当然其中部分的也是80年在中国搞科普所得，必须承认科普工作也是
有重要的社会意义的。
(BTW，有人说你这个搜索未必完整。不错，确实不能保证100％毫无遗漏。但是我
用的search engine is THE search engine everybody in this community uses today.

发帖数: 431 | 12 会议还行，就是安排得有点太紧，symposium和poster都是同时进行，中午吃饭的时间也
不停，太累了。
哪一个部分有趣我觉得见仁见智吧，有一些大的address质量比较高，我个人觉得Chiu &
Hong那一组symposium最好是因为最近两年多我对他们做的东西比较感兴趣，每年SPSP年
会的时候也会见到他们，但这次他们这个symposium明显进步非常快，摊子铺得很开，也
有了一个很强的team，听完他们这一组简直是觉得开发了智力，呵呵，有点夸张，不光是
我，好多人听完了这个都狂赞。
他们这一组的abstract如下，不过好像不全，而且真正报告的时候还有些新的改动。

speakers，只有两三个。这种一定要是很有名气，或者某项工作特别突出的。其题材只
要大体和会议相关就行了。
然后下面会有多个symposium， 这种invited speakers，完全取决于每个symposium的
举办人，一定要和这次举办的主题紧密联系。这个确实是要network，最常见的是，你
的前导师，师兄弟举办的，那么你的课题通常也会和他们相关。
如果你很desperate，你可以自己申请在大会里搞一个symposium。这个一定要提前准备
，先和你打算邀请的人（当然最好是有一两个牛人，而且你知道这几个人通常也来这个
会议）通通气。紧跟大会plan，一旦他们决定接收proposal的时候，就递交。这个具体
课题应该是和你自己的相关，但是又稍微广泛一些，可以包括你的同行，选择范围大一
些。这个也需要一定的network，但是如果你的思路对头，应该不难。
不过呢，我觉得无论被请还是自己组织，最好你做的事情是meaningful的，单纯为了满

为它们对立！
上面说到Plato是否发明或者发现了“浪漫”。首先，我前面说了现代浪漫肯定跟Plato
时期的不完全一样(“浪漫”这个词几百年前才出现)。
第二，Plato对艺术包括诗人什么态度跟他是否研究过浪漫没关系；Plato学说的各部分
之间如何协调如何冲突也超出了这个贴子的范围。事实上，他反对诗人更多是觉得当时
的诗歌稀泥扶不上墙，反而妨碍了人们看到浪漫，而不是反对浪漫本身。
第三，Plato对浪漫(例如爱情这种人类的情感)的思索分散在很多地方，最有名的可能
是Symposium。
“爱你不是爱你的美貌，而是爱你的内在”这话是不是很熟悉啊？Plato在Symposium里
面说的。他还说爱情(eros)远远不止肉欲(sensual)，而拥有纯精神(spiritual)的本质
。他说爱情的秘密，在于你在出生前就知道什么是抽象之美(the Form of beauty)。。

这个列表是很久没更新了，很多很好的Symposium都没有，除了SCA，还有EGSR(
Eurographics Symposium on Rendering)，SGP(Eurographics Symposium on Geometry
Processing)等，都是各自领域最好的会议，但是都没被收录。至于新的SigGraph
Asia更是没有了。

现在觉得可以把这个东西再重新整理下，加进来近五年的进展，
尤其是自己的工作，以前没有加图，现在想加图，
不知道还有没有可能发表。
以前读文献的时候也看到过这种过几年再做更新的综述，
应该不算自我剽窃吧？而且那一次发表的地方更类似于一个symposium摘要扩大本合集。 |

发帖数: 470 | 46 我自己是先和系里的senior合写会议symposium proposal，这样保证每年能在自己领域
的主要会议主持一个symposium.而且我们这个会议非常大方，invited speaker所有费
用全包，所以能请到很牛的人。时间久了，自然现在能独当一面。而且被别人推荐加入
各种committee.
再就是见到会议的组织者或者重要人物就在聊天的过程中经常不经意的毛遂自荐，当然
人一开始不会那我们小虾米当回事，可架不住反复多次，多少会留下一个积极参与的印
象。万一有需要，他们自然会想到我这个免费劳力。。。呵呵。通过这种方法，几年努
力，今年终于混进了我们领域另一大会的technical committee.
还有人告诉我，在事业起步期，与其削尖脑袋去挤进那些有着非常固定圈子的会议，不
如找到一个适合自己的很年轻的会议与其一起成长。我觉得很有道理。现在经常有公司
办新的非常商业化的会议。这些会议要赚钱，会紧跟研究热点和市场需求，想尽办法去
请学术和工业界牛人，也会邀请一些像我们这样的新人，因为新人做的很多是最前沿的

your department are big shots in their areas too.
2. Go to small conferences/symposiums/workshops. You will have more one-on-
one time with big shots.
3. When talk with big shots, get right to the points, unless the big shot
want to chitchat more.
4. Organize stuff, such as conference/symposium/workshop/special issue.
Personally, I don't like big conferences. I hate big receptions and banquets

我也没有经验。但是我也靠想象觉得，首先，你应该和你的前导师谈谈这个想法，虽然
你并不需要他的批准，但是出于礼貌，至少需要让他知道。
第二，我建议你可以先发一封email, 告诉所有的lab alumni 你是谁 （你是那个有六
块腹肌的胡汉三，被赶出外地做了几年PI 之后又回来了，顶替你退休的前老板来领导
这个组，希望和校友们继续保持联系）
第三，我赞成高妹的说法开个symposium, 但是这个最好弄一个他们都愿意来的名义。
因为大家都很忙，很难抽时间和花钱来开一个不知道是什么由头的symposium. 我建议
可以用来庆祝你的前老板的退休，或者说纪念他的桃李满天下的成就（如果他的退休庆
祝会已经在一两年前开过了的话）。这样的话就会有很多人自费愿意来，除非你能拉到
公司赞助或者学校资金，否则你要承担上百人的费用是一个不小的数字。 |
