既然有人争论方的学术水平,就上网搜了一下。应该说这个水平对于一个junior
faculty来说可以算是很牛B了,但是对于老方这种senior的已经搞了一辈子的人来说,
就只能算so so。不要说是院士,离aps fellow的级别也还差了不少。引用率最高的一
篇文章还是95年到了arizona之后跟老外合作的,被引118次,这也是方唯一一篇被引用
上百次的文章。可见方励之89之前确实没有做出过什么重要的工作,他的名声和地位绝
对是靠政治得来的,当然其中部分的也是80年在中国搞科普所得,必须承认科普工作也是
有重要的社会意义的。

解放之后,80年代之前,中国作者在世界的的高引用列出来看看
有几篇?
在当时的闭塞环境下,老方已经超级牛逼了.

这扯什么淡,这是数据。说数据扯淡的人都是自己扯淡。
既然没有得到国际认同,除非现在中国天文物理自成一家,就象当初苏联物
理学界一样,自然可用抛开欧美的标准不论。但事实是中国物理学界并没有
自成一家,改开之后基本上都是跟着国际走,不用欧美的标准怎么评价方的
工作?出路引用率,我也列举了所有方的文章,你也尽可以自己一篇一篇去
看,根据你自己的标准来判断,说说哪一篇的作用特别突出。

如果跟当初中国同行比,most likely 方励之还是比较牛逼的,但这不表示方的学术成
就很高。如我所说,方在80年代的中国,科普的作用大于科研的作用。应该说当时中国
有能力做好科普的学者也是为数不多,因为想要科普首先你自己要真懂,方虽然没有突
破性的工作起码还是真懂。

科大一个一等奖,一个三等奖
这个三等奖的人是霍金唯一一个亚裔学生。
吳忠超
吴忠超(1946年- ),中國福建省福州人。现任浙江工业大学教授,著名物理学家史
蒂芬·霍金的华人学生。
1963年,他获当时中国科学技术大学的刘达(后任该校党委书记及北京清华大学校长)
破格录取,入读该校应用数学系。后来,他转至无线电系。文革后期,他回到中国科学
技术大学任职教员。
1979年,在当时的副校长钱临照的推荐下,吴忠超负笈英国剑桥大学,跟随史蒂芬·霍
金研习宇宙学,主要研究极早期宇宙。1984年吴忠超获剑桥大学博士学位,这时他对时
空的维数问题产生兴趣,并发表了四篇论文,获1985年国际引力基金会论文比赛的第三
名。2001年他在超引力量子宇宙学中首次证明了可观察时空的四维性。1998年他给出量
子宇宙学中一般太初黑洞量子创生的最一般结果。 霍金科普著作的中译本,几乎都是

Fully BS。 我什么时候攻击方了?我不过是列出方的著作和引用率,然后根据事实说
这个综合成就基本上是美国junior faculty里面比价牛逼的水平,但以senior faculty
的水平来说就一般。这些都是事实。我既没有说方不如同时代的中国人,更没有说方不
如我。事实上我也说了,方在当时中国,算是够的上科普的水平,因为当时更多中国教
授连这个水平都达不到,因为他们自己根本不懂,所以科普就是误人子弟。如果说这也
需要几把刷子的话,只能说需要初中生逻辑水平,当然你可能没有。

当然中国的学术水平总体是低的。清华北大用黄金堆人,也没堆出个诺奖。

talking about Fang's contribution to PHYSICS itself, then the data certainly
tells the truth. If you want to generalize the topic to the historical
importance of Fang's role in China, that's totally a different topic.

中国当时的理论物理学界够的上科普水平的确实不多。多数人在闭塞的环境下跟国际学
术界脱规,闭门造车,很多人走向抽象玄学,或是所谓“哲学”思考的偏门,结果是科
普更加误人子弟。方就其发的文章来看起码和当时国际理论物理跟的还比较紧。

I was. People were debating if Fang was a great physicist. I did wonder
about it myself as well, because, being in this community for quite many
years, I have never heard of people citing his work, which prompted my to
search for it today. My purpose of listing the data here is for people to
judge for themselves objectively the importance of Fang as a PHYSICIST, but
it certainly does not reflect his role in other aspects.

不错。如果说在80年代中国方能做到这样已经很不容易,我是完全没有异议的,只能说
当时历史条件的限制。其实即使放到今天来说,中国学术界的水平也不见得就比当初高
很多,文章数量虽然是爆炸式的增长,不过太多都是在灌水。但如果要客观评价方在物
理方面的成就,就还是不能抛开他的文章来异想天开信口开河的说话。还是要就其文章
来具体判断。

我不觉得攻击方需要有两把刷子吧。
攻击老毛的象蚂蚁一样多,没有一个统一过中国,绝大多数没有领导过甚至一个人,不
是照样大言不惭?
另外,学术得在全世界比。你说哪怕方IQ200,Y生的地方不好,没有做过什么杰出的基
础研究,没办法你最多说人是个聪明人,怎么也说不上是个物理天才吧。

那就不知道怎么说了,说学术成就又不看paper。学术成就不完全是paper,但paper肯
定是一个重要方面。
另外,前两年有个日本的化学诺贝尔奖,一辈子也没一篇paper。像他这样的怎么统计
引用率呢?

我没说他是物理天才。但在当时的中国确是出类拔萃的人物。出国后他的研究状况就不
了解了。
方和毛不同。
毛是政治家。统治者。他的一举一动牵扯千千万万人的命运。他当然要被评千秋功过。
方主要还是学者。出国后和民运都拉开距离的。
在他生前评他的学术成就我更本不介意。
前天死了,今天就来贬低他的成就,这脑子被夹过了不是。

实事求是讲方还是很优秀的物理学家,否则也不能在UA站住脚。但非要拔高到中国80年
代以来最好的理论物理学家就太过了。这里几个人过份的渲染方的水平如何牛到什么程
度的,反倒是在损害方的名誉。

That depends on the level you are talking about. Surely, no matter for what
purpose, the very FIRST step of discussing a physicists' contribution to the
community is to look into his paper list. You can take many different
approaches from that point on, but it will be totally pointless if the
discussion is not based on his scientific works.

好吧。我list前的讨论只能算是我本人粗看了他的工作以后的简单判断。如我所说,之
所以去查就是因为之前很少听人引用到方励之的工作,但是过去在国内却听说他特别牛
B,所以很好奇,查看了一下,发现没有特别引人注目的地方,基本上和我很少在海外
听说他的工作是consistent的。考虑到中国学术界的特殊性也不觉得很意外。但是不排
除遗漏了很重要但是不被人重视的工作的可能,所以罗列的文章在此,欢迎懂行的人展
开说。否则我直接列出前面的总结,也不必罗列所有的文章了。

这是空话。具体到方励之,你要说文章数引用律没有科学的反应他的成就,就要拿出
具体的东西来说明,比如到底是那几篇文章你认为价值和作用被低估了。否则永远是
你自己的主观臆断,怎么能够服人?

专业文章是全的。不包括的有几类,非英语期刊可能漏失,中国期刊收录可能不全。另
外出版的书籍,评论类,科普类,综述类百科类的文章都不包括。
