scientist,可能需要mentor一个junior 的data scientist.
本人目前码工，因为本科学数学，最近一年看了一些ML的算法以及工作上需要处理大量
数据，决定转data scientist （也因为自己不是cs科班出身）。没有在这个行业工作
过，想请教在digital media领域做data scientist的职业前途怎么样？如果以后想跳

我说能不能申请一下 assistant scientist .他说 这个也是Postdoc,不能申请funding.
并且听人说，由assistant scientist 转变为 asociate scientist不容易，还不如直
接从 postdoc直接转为 asociate scientist.

办手续的秘书的回答太让我疑惑了。
一开始，我要求Research Associate，她说这是相当于Technician的，而Assistant
Scientist以后可以升成Associate Scientist，再上去就是Faculty 。但是昨天我看到
打出的广告变成了“Research Associate”就去找她。结果她又说Research Associate
是比Assistant Scientist高而比Associate Scientist低，介于两者间的 Title。
因为第一开始说的是Permanent 的职位，但当时说的是Assistant Scientist，现在说
的是Research Associate， 我要去确认一下，现在这个还是不是Permanent的了。
另外，Research Associate中文翻译成什么比较合适（考虑到回国找位置）? |

纯科研压力太大，我几年前有完全相同的感受，所以开始考试，match。我也以
physician scientist为目标，尽我所能。现在培训即将结束，但是，现实令人悲观。
14年培训：7年科研，3年住院医，4年fellow。发过6篇一作，拿过training grant，当
过chief resident，AOA。现在正在找 physician scientist职位，希望不大。我觉得
我尽力准备了。可是形式变化，和几年前不同。
医改之后，医院都强调收入。physician-scientist是赔钱的，特别是低年资，没
funding，还要医院扶持资助。这是全国普遍情况，当然也有特殊个例。 有R01的大牛
，医院当然欢迎来撑门面。trump上台，科研经费应该会进一步缩减。状况不会改善。
个人建议，还是先以physician为目标。 scientist么，留点心就好了。临床科研比基
础科研机会大。若以physician-scientist为目标的话，要进有钱的私立顶级名校做
fellow，毕业后自我消化，留校。到时候竞争的人还少。 |

谢你们的建议。
现在我们又有一个问题了。今天lg又收到一个电话面试，职位是research scientist，
但实际是给公司内部生产设计部门和客户提供科学咨询。好像没有bench work.
虽然离拿这个offer还十万八千里，因为另一个QC Scientist offer 要在一定时间内决
定留还是据，所以先问大家这两种职位的稳定性和发展前景如何？lg英语尚好，不过他
平时不是个三言两语就能说服别人的人。

貌似Genentech Scientist独立性和岗位要求比以上的略高，接近学术界的assistant
professor的装备水平？

个人总结：这个问题很难统一回答，取决于申请人的职位／状态。
If you are already independent and have your own lab, then for sure, go with
RO1, definitely not R21; but if you are not totally independent yet, for
example, research scientist/staff scientist/RAP in a big lab, I would think
R21 could be a good choice. 当然前提还是你的proposal要一样的competitive. 原
因有：1) R21 applicant pool is different; 虽然说是R21面对established PI, 但
实际上大部分PI还是不申请R21的，起码我们领域是这样；2）for current funding
climate, study section和说过，很难想象把一个5年的>1 million grant给一个还没
