其它公司了，然后......脑子当时慌当一下就白了，都不记得当时20分钟是怎么撑过来
的。难道说第一个on-site就要这么黄了吗？被PS黑了会不会Hiring Manager也不会有

发帖数: 978 | 12 Phd要毕业了，最近开始找data scientist的工作，困惑不少，基本背景如下，恳求大
牛传道解惑：
1. 专业机械，学校排名50左右非牛校，做的偏于machine learning，data mining的机
械系统分析，也修了不少统计系的课。自己对data analytics 还是很有兴趣的，而不
太想做纯机械的东西。
2. 老板要求比较高，实验室毕业的学生publication，专利啥的的都还不错，我的
publication都是机械方面老板认为还算top的journal，都是基于data mining的。
3. 实验室研究大部分都用matlab和R，我自己修了一门sas的课，现在sas应该算初级，
不过自认为学习编程比较快，应该能很快上手。有两个学期教本科生一门课，我建议他
们用SAS，因为要教他们怎么用，我也逼着自己学了不少东西。
4. 期间自己也学习了JAVA和Python，没太多时间练习，就是之前修课的时候，做作业
或者project，自己努力用不同的软件写代码。因为老板比较tough，自己也不能抽太多
时间学习这些与研究无关的东西。

有中国人可以申请。 我可以把合适的resume转给我老板， 他是hiring manager
职位本身还比较有意思， 偏research一点的应用， 可以接触到所有MSFT 产品的数据
， 大数据工具，以及各种的数据模型, 经常需要讨论一些paper. 我个人认为在我做过
的data scientist 职位中是比较有意思的。
要求最好是PHD, 并且熟练掌握 sql 和有 machine learning 以及data mining 的经验

在全国算是很有名气，是传统的BME 科研非常好的学校。
我的背景具体是做神经信号记录和分析的，老板十分重视科研的scientific 价值，所
以发表的文章也不错，具体当然也是偏neural 方面的信号记录和处理。Phd 过程包括
做动物实验取生理信号，中途有时候悍一下电路，之后是信号处理，包括基本的滤波，
傅里叶变化之类的，然后用一些成型的machine learning 的算法， 像PCA，SVM 之类
的做做生理信号的clustering，非常基本。本科的时候采集并且处理过脑电信号，也发
表过区分脑电信号算法的会议论文。
临近毕业了，招工作，确实觉得这个方向目前工业界很窄，只有两三家公司在做，想找
一些偏信号处理和healthcare data的data scientist职位。自己研究生院上过random
signal， DSP 之类的课程，但是还是觉得自己在算法和machine learning 太弱了，也
在接着学。

BB的 software engineer 和一个小公司（其实也不小，有700多人了，做real time
bidding）的data scientist， 求建议
两个经理感觉都不错，至少面试的时候感觉都很nice
工资
BB的base 高10K
小公司的sign on 多10K，option 可以忽略不计
对工资不是很在意
做的东西
这是我最纠结的地方
BB是一个trading solution 的组，组里的另外三个人都是资深码工，自己对金融也挺
感兴趣，本科还修了一个商科的双学位，
对写码没有太大激情，但也不讨厌
不知道进去以后生活是怎么样的
小公司
工作做的东西（包括他们现在用的工具，语言）感觉跟我phd做的东西比较像，会写很
多machine learning的算法
公司有非常多的交易数据，hiring manager也一直说他们公司内部整个data science的
组会学很多跟big data相关的技术，总之说了一堆最热的Buzz word

发文方向不同。lz的情况只能说是engineer和scientist的要求应该是很大不同，用
scientist的要求去面engineer本来就不合适,跨学科的交流本来就不容易，尤其是任何
一方怀着本来也不想让对方听太懂的意思。面ds部门要黑人简直太容易了，黑cs背景的
master基本计算数学多问点就能黑掉，甚至统计的概念来几个就能黑掉，黑stat背景的
master也很简单，多问点工具类的实现类的就能黑得稳稳的，phd的相对黑起来难一点
，但想黑哪有黑不掉的。好的工作环境真诚的招工态度会让你在面试中感受到的，适合
你的工作面试的时候也必然能让你展示自己的长处的。 |

一个做machine learning/data mining的CS PhD毕业之前就握着好几篇KDD, ICML,
NIPS的paper。物理和生物的PhD没有KDD, ICML, NIPS的paper，去FLG找工作的时候很
多简历就直接被刷掉了。即便内推面前拿到onsite，也很少有人禁得住几轮白板bug
free的攻势。禁得住几轮白板攻势的物理和生物PhD们，完全可以做正常的SDE，别人也
没有必要去抢data scientist这条狭窄的饭碗。

看到一个这样的opening，要求的skill set和我的背景挺符合的，工作内容看上去比较
像学校里的technical staff，主要是用超算跑一些数据分析以及分子模拟，还有代码
优化，research成分不多。学位要求master, phd preferred
我是明年毕业的计算化学/计算生物学phd，这个工作我很有兴趣，location也合适，不
过我有两点担心，首先这样的工作以后的career path是怎样的？如果以后想进药厂的
话这样的experience会被value吗？转码工的话，这个工作虽然也涉及到代码但并不以
编程为主。另外就是glassdoor上这家医学院的review不太好。

我的理解就是data scientist是上头派给软件开发工程师们的监工，或者纯数据分析助
手。该ds可以在这两个身份间不断转换。
FB的大多数决定都是data driven，要是没有独立监工，都让软件开发者自己分析数据
堆个ppt，那这决定就没法做了。岂不是所有项目都一片大好？ |

然后问到两个coding问题，都是超级简单，一个写算fibonacci（n），另一个是一组数
有很多数出现两次，只有一个数出现一次，怎么找那个出现一次的数。跟面SDE的比起
