hand shuffle. It is kind of slow at about 30 hands per hour for a typical 9
player ring game.
House rake is 4 chips per hand. Add 1 chips for Jackpot, 1 chips for tip.
So it is a 6 chip sink for a typical hand (casino want ppl to think jackpot
as a bank, but i feel it is just another expense like the lottory ticket).
That means the chips will sink from the table at 180 chips per hour rate.

熟悉的这批当代牛投们了。。。SI曾评选过一个MLB在00-09年间的all-decade team，
结果深与我心有戚戚焉--五位rotation投手就是我上一章写过的那三位大牛Pedro，
Johnson，Schilling，再加上新生代的两位翘楚Halladay & Santana。的确，如果要写
这个世纪以来最好的投手们，我心里大概有一个六七个人的名单，其中Doc本来就是排
在第一位的，他是我心目中这个时代的顶尖投手的代表，是ace of the aces，而现在
他的去世更坚定了我要用专门的一章来dedicate给他的想法，就像其他爱他的人用
youtube上的tribute videos来纪念他一样，希望能够向这位在我熟悉棒球的年代最稳
定最有统治力最优秀的投手致以一份深深的景仰和敬意(当然，还有无尽的惋惜与伤痛)。

On variance with same blinds - of course you shouldn't compare given same
blinds. This is why usually limit to NL variance comparisons are done with
comparing buyins (while more detailed comparisons take into account winrate)
. So you can say NL 100 is close enough to equate to 3/6 LHE (3/6 LHE is
bigger), and given those two games if you play a TAG winning style, in
general LHE has higher variance. The only time NL 100 will be a higher

突然想写点儿关于棒球的东东。。。起因有二，一是前几天阿童木夺冠的时候，看
到Verlander,Beltran,McCann这些名字感觉是那么的熟悉而又陌生，恍惚间有种
沧海桑田前世今生的深深感慨。。。和好几个曾经一起看过棒球的朋友聊起，都感
觉生娃带娃似乎像一道分水岭，把我们心中属于那个时代的记忆几乎完全给隔断
了，以至于平时已经再也想不起来。。。当时我就产生了想写点儿什么以把那一段
的记忆重新给唤醒的冲动，但因为很忙并且一直也没有找到一个很好的切入点来开
篇，就一直迷迷糊糊地那么拖着，直到suddenly发生了Halladay的tragic
accident。。。it really hit me hard，我自己都不知道是为什么，我并不曾
是他或者是蓝鸟/菲力的粉丝，按理说我不应该感到非常的难过，但事实就是我足足

这次在 Vegas 没怎么打牌，是典型的家庭旅行，看 show，观光为主。陪 LP 几乎逛遍
Vegas 所有有名的景点，看了有名的 show。
Vegas 的住：
住的是 Ballys Las Vegas，不算高档，但其实里面房间很不错，地点又特佳，在
Vegas Strip 的中心，因为是 total reward 的会员，四晚才花了 120 左右，估计如
果是钻石卡会员的花，肯定是免费的（唉，自己去年还是钻石会员啊）。Check-in 的
时候，问柜台有没有升等（没塞小费），可爱的柜台小姐立刻送上了套房，但在 6 楼
，嫌靠路边太吵，回到柜台，柜台小姐表示抱歉，然后送上 56 楼的特大豪华套房，带
吧台，Jacuzzi，里面沙发左一个，右一个的，5 －6 个人在里面打滚都富裕。建议赌
棍集团到 Vegas 是一定要询问有没有免费升等，要 North Tower 的大套房。那时是节
日，可能困难一些，看运气了，不过不问白不问，要发扬死缠烂打的精神。

parx大多是1/2 NL.
比如此时此刻parx有24台，其中16台1/2 NL
foxwood现在有36台，其中12台1/2 NL。
而且foxwood现在经常打1/2 NL的很多是1/2 NL和2/5 NL两边打。
实际上1/2NL和 2/5NL并没有什么技术差别。只不过2/5 NL波动大些。 |

如果你看看NL里Staff Scientist的CV，很多已经做了N多postdoc，还有相当一些是在
学校里混不到tenure的。水平可想而知。牛校出来的PhD一般不愿去NL做postdoc就是这
个原因。所以，NL里招postdoc很困难，工资高就是为了吸引人来。来做postdoc的大多
是美国三流学校的，或是直接从国外招的，或是在美国做了N个postdoc的。
NL里等级森严，没有老板出面，最底层的postdoc不可能push别的staff scientist 帮
你干事的。结果是在学校里一两星期完成的在NL要几个月。
而且，NL里很多项目很大，需要昂贵的设备，到学校里当faculty就不可能接着做同样
的东西了，因为学校不可能给你那么多财力支持。
很学校里的project不同，政府一般投很多钱让大家做最后证明是不wo |

For poker room, I think it depends on the game you want to play. Most
of my cash game were played at Wynn and Venetian. Back then the 2-5 NL at
wynn were no cap and it is 1500NL max now, which is still the best 2-5 NL in
Vegas.I did not play much live since I focus playing online. Wynn has 2-
5NL(1.5k) cap and 5-10 NL(no cap) running most of night. Their 1-3 NL is 500
$ max.

虽然遗憾的没见到老大，可是和众东部版友们见面，打牌，吃饭，交流，真的感觉此行
不虚。帮主（熊熊）门下盛名之下无虚士。大家都是对打牌有一定的理解，热情，控制
。希望下次再见到更多新旧朋友。

礼拜四 11/22
从礼拜二就已经进入度假模式了。去Commerce住一晚。ran bad。把上个礼拜赢的全部
输掉了。555.因为chase loss所以礼拜三很晚才回到家。睡2-3个小时。急急忙忙的整
理行李。LP说又不是去相亲。快快快,有带ID就好！
本来计划飞机上睡觉。可是最近迷上open face Chinese（2-3年前在东欧开始流行的一
种 Chinese Poker variant，大概上个月开始在LA热起来）。大部分可以用来睡的时间

人到一个NL部门三四年以上才会慢慢了解事情怎么运作。LDRD是内部资金，一般是小钱
。大钱从联邦拨款。一个组，PI可能很多，也可能就一两个。HR根本不可能了解科研系
统怎么运作的。NL的PI也受很多限制，对参与项目的人员也不是任意控制。
NL的好处是8小时之外都是自己的。有钱就招学生薄厚，没钱就养自己。坏处在于，很
多时候做什么研究身不由己。

请问目前NL什么形式？多大几率能留下来？是不是得citizen了才有可能？
想先postdoc过去，目前是H1b，支持H1b的NL多不多，还是每个地方有不同的政策，得
看具体职位。
NL的postdoc职位在哪里看比较好，试过在每个NL的官网上找，但效率很低。不知道有
没有个集中的地方。还是说都得熟人介绍，在内部的pool里面留意。

一直厄运连连。两大ACE之一的Waino在春训里被确诊要做Tommy John手术，整个赛季报
废。然后常规赛是成绩不佳，故事不断，就连经理TLR，江湖上俗称老狐狸的家伙也脸
上长了带状疱疹（Shingles）曾经一度无法带队，被NL Central的对手嘲笑不已。时间
一晃到了这年的8月25日，离常规赛截止只有一个月多一点的时间了，这年的NL有一个
外卡名额，显然是在一个叫做Braves的队伍囊中。Braves领先小强10.5场。此时TLR的
心中埋藏了一个天大的秘密，不，他不是想要追上Braves,而是打算赛季结束退休了。
16年的ML经理生涯，两次WS冠军，他经历得够多了。

almost all my NL experience comes from tournaments), I think boredom is not
less of a factor in NL. In limit, you get constant action, in NL, you wait
patiently for big action. I read somewhere someone described NL as "hours of
dull boredom followed by moments of sheer terror". I actually agree with
that.
Now I listen to music when playing, so don't feel as bored as before and my
result actually improves.

发帖数: 1621 | 45 很正常，live session 本身时间就少，大多都是周末去的，碰到一个 hot streak, 连
续几个礼拜 NL 1/2 打到 $40 / h 完全有可能。
可这东西就跟炒股一样，旺的时候觉得没费啥劲就赢钱了，好多人以为这就是自己的
winrate 了。没想到如果天天这样打，一是没这么多 fish 给你抓，二是 downswing
的时候不论怎么打都会输，两头一扯，算下来就没那么多了。player 是打得多的人，
应该是有亲身体会的。
不过话说回来，NL 2/5 打得多了，回头打 NL 1/2 感觉的确 soft， 打得不好的人也
多。要稳定赢钱，NL 1/2 比较容易一些。
2/3 年以前我碰到的那些 AC NL 1/2 的 regular, 有一段时间都在 2/5 桌上，大概想
升级，可后来，看到他们打了一阵都回到 1/2 去了。钱容易赚，swing 也小，一天赚
个 100 -200 ，加上 comp， 又不交税，还能申请福利，比一般蓝领工作不强很多？

礼拜二 11/27
明天早上6点的飞机，不想在Parx呆太久所以十二点就离开了。
吃完饭去Poker Room一看果然人多。这次就有看到很多在Commerce常见的熟面孔。到的
时候有:
400/800 Stud 8
25/50 NL
75-150 H.O.E. x2
10/10 NL x3
40/80 Omaha 8
30/60 LHE
2/5 NL x7
PLO 5
15/30 LHE x2
1/2 NL x 12
还有一些零零星星不同的小mix和小LHE
LP玩了一下1/2NL就有15/30LHE的座位了。这一趟美中不足就是LP没有咬到鱼。今天也
是小输一点，就算在我的账上吧。
我打了2/5大概1个小时。接下来新的30-60LHE Must-Move开了。great 4 handed game.
赢了～1个rack。可是去main game后连输4-5手。最后LHE今晚差不多打平。今晚Parx30
-60LHE main game的水平很不错。只有2-3个看起来次一等的可是no one was giving
it away.
