I believe the answer is both, true and false. There is undeniably a slowdown
in VC funding in the Bay Area as of late 2015 with all the unicorns and
even giants falling in valuations due to “tech corrections”. Fundraising
is not as easy as it was before because the bar has been set a bit higher

contract to hire是针对的某个职位,并不是针对某个人的。所以不是公司不信任某人
,而是对这个职位没有强烈的需求,但是某个项目需要人手来完成。未来是否Hire肯定
是要看这个人的各方面,不仅仅是performance这么简单,另外还要看公司自身的情况
,预算等。
contract to hire肯定要比contract更容易招到人,因为大部分人都会抱着被hire的希
望,但是我个人觉得这是个类似marketing的噱头。就比如很多广告的,up to xx% or
up to $xx的折扣,看上去吸引人,实际只有非常少部分的东西能达到那个最高线。同
样的一个公司可能招10个contract to hire,最后只打算从中hire, 1-2个人. 而且如
果觉得只要performance好就会被hire那就太天真了

基本观点是:
1. IT 行业只有两种职位: contractor 和 full-time-employee(FTE)
2. 对想成为FTE的人来说,做CTH的这段时间风险异常的高,而且必须做好随时再找工
作的准备。
3. 对只想做contractor的人来说,to hire 没有什么吸引力, 而且to hire or not
to hire, 这个决定和之前给不给你这个to hire的胡萝卜根本没有关系。
4. 为什么会有CTH这种模式出现呢? 公司有错误的假设:IT行业和传统行业一样,员
工供大于求。实际上呢,市场上好的IT员工是很稀缺的。
5. 后果:对公司而言,一般来说,CTH吸引不到好的员工;想做FTE的人,不会选择这

我之前发过一个refer帖子,经常上论坛的朋友应该看到过。最近Uber势头很好,
headcount很多,尤其是experienced hire。我之前内推的朋友已有数人拿到offer,和
我常联系的HR对我提交的candidate的平均质量赞赏有加,让我再多提交点儿。鉴于之
前的帖子有一些信息已经不准确,所以再发一帖,同时更新一些新的信息。
我下面介绍一下,但本帖只是用于帮助你更全面的了解Uber,是有助于申请的,不是用
于和你辩论的。所以我一概不参与关于business,前景等的讨论。
business方面:
1,experienced hire是很容易拿面试的。无论你在多小的公司,来自多普通的学校,

恩,我写的就是两个都很strong。。对的,我就是不明白这个,如果只有一个openning,那么学校就没有这个budget,那怎么可能凭空创造一个new position把两人都hire了呢。。。除非学校每年都有专门的budget为这种情况做准备?或者有专门的division来管这种情况,手里管一点相应的钱的?
如果没有可能两个都hire,那如果hire那个minority,那岂不是对那个majority很不
公平。。。那如果hire那个majority,那对那个minority不公平。。both are not equal opportunity hiring。。。

最近面了个小公司职位(100以下), 公司已经有7年了。 面试前是期望full time,
但是面试过程中hiring manager问接不接受contract to hire(三个月)。当时一下觉
得这个职位不稳定。 回来后直接拒掉了。 但是昨天hiring manager 专门打电话解释
这个职位不是短期,三个月后转正。
我以前一直是full time, 觉得现在公司都是at will, 开人起来无情的很。 就不是
理解这个contract to hire跟full time有是么不同。 是不是有是么猫腻。 有经历过
contract to hire的前辈们解惑,释疑一下。先谢谢。
本人身份没问题, 爱人可以cover benefits, 但是现在工作没劲, 也看不到career
上能进一步,工资也是低的很。 比较了一下自己现在的情形,权衡一下新职位的风险
, 新职位提供的final rate 也可以接受。

PERM需要招聘,而hire freeze不能招聘,那么Hire freeze时打的广告就是虚假广告,
这个hr是要担法律责任的,不查你还好,一查肯定出事,perm不需要提到hire freeze,
因为你在不能hire的时候打hire的广告,这个就是虚假的,懂不懂?

看下面的WSN这样数落面试他的中国同胞, 作为一个hiring manager, 忍不住说几句
我见过的中国人, 有点招聘权利的, 都倾向于招中国人.
但不是说中国人面试你了, 就一定要录取你.
没录取你, 更不表示和中国人过不去,
因为很可能他面试和录取的都是中国人, 只是那个中国人不是你.
有一点倒比较肯定, hiring manager在看简历的时候, 肯定已经知道你是中国人, 所以才给你面试的机会. 如果一开始就不大算招中国人, 叫你来浪费时间干嘛.
我招人的时候, 收到的简历, 中国人占20%左右, 印度人占50%. 我电话和on site三分之二都是中国人. 这些没拿到offer的中国人, 大概也会JJWW: 如果hiring manager不是中国人, 大概拿到offer了. 事实是, 如果hiring

楼太高了,就另起一个。
非常感谢所有网友的回复。其中不少网友对我们 negotiate spousal hire 十分不理解
,这里解释一下。下面是关于 spousal hire 的一个比较好的博客和 斯坦福关于这个
事情的报告。有兴趣的可以看一下。总的来说,现在 dual career couple 越来越多,
很多学校已经意识到这个问题,然后有些相对的政策。比如说,有些学校有非常确定的
对spousal hire 的规定,一般有三方分担工资,这个博客里有,有些学校的网站上也
有。不过这个政策都是 case by case,每个学校不一样。
之前出问题我们觉得主要是沟通不够,应该有我 LD 提出是否能安排一个 visit。 至
于提出这个要求,我们咨询过很多人,包括在那个学校成功拿到 spousal hiring 的
人,他们都觉得我们的要求非常合理。
以后有了结果会跟大家汇报。

还有一点是千万不能低估开一个TT position的难度,尤其如果你和你LD不在一个系。
除了你的水平(比系里的recent hire如何),还有方向。一般系里总有几大山头,比
如化学系有无机,有机,分析,理论,实验等,每个position,每个hiring plan 都是
各个山头谈判平衡的结果。你突然间出现,非你field的人会觉得,招了你会不会下次
系里从dean那里拿不到position了,那他的field怎么办。即使是在你的field的人,也
会考虑如果招了你,是不是不能再招其他人了,你比他们能在open search上能招到的
人的水平如何。归根结底,每个TT position都需要学校投入大量资源,而每个系能拿
到的position是有限的,招了你很可能就少了一个position,所以spousal hire 是非
常不容易的. 有一个情况是系里很愿意招的, 就是Dean保证招你不占用系里hiring
plan 的名额。 不过肯做这种保证的dean极其少。在Lz来说,dean已经叫他们考虑soft

背景一下:工程系博后一枚,在申请2015年的faculty position。
有几个问题请教一下版上:
1) 公立学校也会采用rolling hiring吗?我一直以为公立学校是必须面试至少3个
candidates for one position.如果rolling hiring, 第一个candidate接了offer,后
面的candidates岂不是纯过场?
2)版上很少说cluster hire这情况。和一般的hiring,版上有知道在process上有什么
大区别吗?时间会take much longer吗?
3)很个人的一个问题。学校的search committee成员给我发了个邀请信,让我去申请
他们学校的position。这种情况是不是多见的?我绝不是。。绝不是。。牛人。我不确
定这种情况下,是不是应该和这位faculty keep talking.或者说,如果拿到一个学校
的interview,和系里的faculty提前联系下是不是合适?

嗯,这是个很正常的要求。但是要注意,不能让人觉得double hire是必要条件。
如果你是一个很strong的candidate,可以强力要求。但这个可能会有负面效果。
有很多学校对double hire有压力。其原因是好多教授来了之后过2-3年因为spouse找不
到工作跳槽去别的地方。因为找新教授是一个头疼的事情,所以有些学校如果觉得这个
人有可能因为spousal hire问题跳槽的话,干脆去找下一个没有double hire问题的
candidate。

手头有一个contract的offer。猎头说是6个月contract,然后转为正式hire,onsite面
试的时候公司也是这么跟我说的。但是收到的offer letter上没有提到6个月,而且完
全没有提到contract to hire这一条。
想问问板上有没有人有过contract to hire的经验,contract to hire 有多靠谱?
offer letter上是否应该提到会转为正式职位?
还有,这种职位可以negotiate吗?多谢!

Hiring manager还是很难一意孤行, 否则日后会被抓小辫子。
我所知道的面试一般都是interviewer独立写报告并做决定hire/no hire. 当然Hiring
manager 可以事先打招呼,但我没遇到。

Hiring manager 告诉我说因为预算问题,不会给我太多,并且让我跟HR商量看看
我还没有找HR谈,但是我想知道,决定给我多少薪水是hiring manager的事情,还是HR
的事情
在发我offer之前,hiring manager是否知道我的具体薪水?
主要是不确定商量的空间能有多大,因为hiring manager已经告诉我有预算问题了。
我还能否按照10%-20% 往上加价?

公司大头亲自打电话来了,热切邀请加入。讲了一大推好话,让我收回决定。但工资不
变。
从最近据的这个offer来看,HR自己定下很低的salary,根本不理当初hiring manager
定下的bottom line (比HR给的多10k).hiring manager和当时另外三个interview
officers都很客气,都希望我能去,而且我也表态了希望加入他们。HR没有参与面试。
定下这么一个offer,而且把一些应该有的benefit都给取消了.
所以不理解这个HR到底是听hiring manager的,还是翻过来的。
现在想给hiring manager和另外几个人发个email.谢谢他们的时间和面试,但遗憾
compensation 没有达到当时定下的bottom line,希望以后能有机会继续合作。

我觉得contract to hire并不是因为公司没有名额,是公司有名额但是不是很trust你
,所以要考察你一段时间再决定要不要你。
我就是这种情况。我也能理解别人,我都是国内的工作经验,别人自然要打折扣。 一
种是完全不承认,直接给个entry level的,另一种是承认但是给个contract to hire
的工作。我虽然内心比较忧虑contract to hire,还是选择了contract to hire, 原
因是给的钱多。在稳定和钱之间,我选择了钱。希望以自己的表现赢得别人的认可,最
后给我转成正式职工。

因为是general hiring,基本看做题
无论以后去到哪个组都差不多,因为是engineer driven,
而某家号称general hiring,但重要的一关是host manager,也就是和这个manager的
match情况,这样以来,实际上就不是general hiring了。而员工进去之后很大情况不
会安排在那个host manager下面。
team match的过程一般是最需要人的经理来match你,和根据你的技能来match
新员工和host manager聊的好,但和真正的经理就不一定了,但某家的文化是至上而下
的管理和被管理文化,如果和新经理处的不好,就危险了
所以某家出现pip的概率比gf大的多,经理p人的时候一般不会有上面的压力,而且可以
“去除公司负资产” 反正当时招这个人进来不是我招的。
如果把人直接安排到host manger下面,或者让招人的经理来做host manager情况就会
好的多
总之,某家学gf的general hiring,没学明白,如果稍加改变,应该会好很多

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (AP) — Kohl's Corp. says it plans to hire more than
52,000 holiday employees nationwide this season, up more than 10 percent
from last year.
Kohl's expects hiring an average of 41 employees per store. The department
store chain has 1,146 stores in 49 states. Kohl's will also hire about 5,700
