w*******e 发帖数: 2651 | 1 Talking about heal strike,forefoot strike,and midfoot strike, that reminds
me of the human foot modeling paper presented at a conference before. Here
is simulation with stress contours at different stages of contact. The model
contains bones, ligaments, and human tissues. Pretty neat! BTW, do you know
how many bones and ligaments in one foot? |

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 2 Actually my breathing pattern is drastically different for long slow run
vs 5K. For the 5K I force myself to do 2/2 breathing or faster. For long
easy run I do 4/4. The question about running form in ultra really has
to do with the endurance of different leg muscles. My calfs can generate
a lot power over short distances, but they don't yet have the endurance
that could carry me to the marathon distance. So currently while I can
run a 5K landing on forefoot, I cannot do it in a marathon.

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 3 That's crazy. I can't imagine how to run in five fingers without landing on forefoot -- that sounds like "total shin destruction".
Just found out that I finished #13. Had I knew I'd rank so well I'd have pushed harder! |

Interesting to observe the form of forefoot runners like Sammy Wanjiru and
Zola Budd. They use their hips a lot more than heel strikers. |

17'40 5K is about 5:42 pace. It's my 5K goal in the next two years. I'm
starting to do some speed sessions at sub 6 pace. It's really a different
world. I feel that moving to forefoot strike is giving me plenty of room to improve over short distances. |

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 7 congrats! you are on!
my shin splints got worse after an abusive fartlek session on the treadmill
with speeds ranging from 6.5mph to 11mph today. I must spend the next two
weeks on my bike or stationary bikes instead of running...:( the good news is however that I found myself completely adapted to forefoot running. now heel strike just feels awkward.

something quite new to me. |

p*n 发帖数: 134 | 10 generally if you take smaller steps, you are less likely to strike with your
heel. forefoot landing is pretty obvious - you are simply running on your
toes.. others differences are not that easy to tell, what i do is i just
avoid landing on my toes/balls, and try to have some pawback motion so that
i'm not heel striking.

Midfoot(fullfoot) strike lands on the posture line.
It would not create excessive stress due to bending
like the forefoot strike.
It would not cause unnaturally stopping force like
heel strike. |
|
b***i 发帖数: 10018 | 21 not that hard if you train for it. whx would tell you it's about forefoot
landing.:) yes, it's about your running form and your quads. |
|
c*******r 发帖数: 13580 | 22 It looks like you have pretty flat feet (from the picture of your feet).
Your running shoe shows a sign of under pronation. BTW, it's the forefoot
that counts. The picture of the heels of the running shoe and slipper doesn
't tell much info other than that you land with the outside of the heel,
which a lot of people do and that has little to do with the pronation. |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 23 The race still took more out of me than I thought. My quads were sore for
three days. Knowing that weakened
quads put my knees in danger, I did most of my easy runs last week almost
exclusively with forefoot strike --
my calfs were relatively fresh and could absorb the impact. And I avoided
roads, going on dirt trails and
treadmill. |

S*M 发帖数: 10832 | 27 我菜鸟,也是平足
自己在家里琢磨了半天,最后买了neutral shoes
跑了几十迈了, so far so good
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 29 No, flat. My calfs don't have enough endurance to allow me to run
continuously on forefoot for more than 4
hours. I would have to resort to heel strike to preserve my leg muscles, in
ultra events. |

s******p 发帖数: 819 | 39 just found this website from harvard. they obviously studied barefoot very
scientifically. their conclusion:
Our research asked how and why humans can and did run comfortably without
modern running shoes. We tested and confirmed what many people knew already:
that most experienced, habitually barefoot runners tend to avoid landing on
the heel and instead land with a forefoot or midfoot strike. The bulk of
our published research explores the collisional mechanics of different kinds
of foot strike |

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 41 Around the lake 24 hour ultra.
The race started 7pm last night. I would cover the first 50 miles in less
than 9 hours with ease. At the time 100 miles felt like a piece of cake in
24 hours, and I was easily on pace to 120. But my right ankle started to get
real sore in the front. I couldn't flex my ankle and it was extremely
painful to land on my heels. So I ran short choppy strides on my forefoot
and midfoot. But then even that hurt real bad, on hard surface at least. So
I tried to run on grass |

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 44 I've had worse ankle injuries before (on the other foot, actually). I know there isn't any ruptured tendon
or anything like that, just a very bad inflammation. My right foot is
swollen like a baby's foot, and I cannot flex my ankle to less than 90
degree. But I can walk just fine on forefoot now. I'll be staying at home
for a couple days, no extended walking. |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 45 I'm a 100% forefoot runner now. feeling super efficient in my outing today.
I feel just as comfortable in a short stride, slow pace ultra mode, as in a
tempo mode. My feet only push backward, and I feel that no energy is being
wasted. I enjoyed being sneaky when I passed other runners on the road -- I
couldn't hear the sound of my own strides, and they probably didn't know I
was there until I passed them. Have yet to see how my marathon pace runs go
with my newly improved running form. |

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 46 Come to think about it, it took me about one year to make the complete
transition from a very bad case of heel striker to a forefoot striker. It

definitely worth the effort.
