发帖数: 4074 | 1 横向上，基本上小部分associate prof可能是APS fellow，一半左右
的full prof不是APS fellow。而且明显凝聚态最难，因为人多，方
向也非常广。高能和核物理看起来相对容易一些，其实也未必，毕竟
这些方向职位难找，能够survive的都比较强。由于一些众所周知的
原因，女人和黑人也容易一些，当然不能说他们不牛，但整体上稍微
容易一些。
凝聚态有一个很大的问题是方向太广。由于研究资金的指导性作用，
虽然在某个方向能出几篇PRL之类的高质量文章，但并不意味着能顺
利拿到funding。因此很多人会做一些截然不同的方向，随着funding
投入的减小，甚至完全放弃以前干的不错的方向。APS fellow需要推
荐，尤其是某个方向的小组织进行推荐，除非你是那几条survive的
大鱼，否者，即使你有好些PRL，你也不可能得到推荐。
所以，感觉上，这个fellow的几率跟你能持续在某个方向做的时间
（当然跟能申请的funding数密切联系）有关。这个简单点说就是刚
才有人指出的，工作要过得去，人品也要攒足。 |

习惯 机会可能也不多（尤其是fellow结束之后） 这一个就够郁闷的了
你后面这个rank是你猜的吧 hehe 而且jenalia一共就那么一栋楼 现在已经70%满了吧
光把现在所有的fellow都升成group leader都不够 怎么可能有一个明显的晋升途径。
。fellow suppose你是去花5年解决几个重要问题然后就可以走人的 但是现在的
setting里真的去了5年就走那就没有太大意义了 所以我看他们也不一定就知道fellow
term结束准备怎么搞
group leader->senior这个就更不靠普了 senior在那里就是个honorary的东西吧 难道

各地巡回演讲，没觉得技术上有啥特牛的地方，论文和引用少的都可以忽略不计。人都
是通过“for the leadership。。。”或者“for the application。。。"进去的，不
是“for the contribution。。。”
和10几20年前相比，工业界进来的Fellow比例在提高，但这个确实使Fellow的含金量降

nomination committee关系好，进这个相对其他几个协会容易太多了。大陆之前少，

提到fellow和院士，让我忽然觉得想讲讲8卦。
前后给3个fellow干过活,
第一个，德裔，一流学术水平，严谨木衲， 举例说明:
老板带着出去会议，碰到一个长期合作伙伴，老哥们。于是饭局，大家开心。
局中， 老板滔滔不绝research work。 俺颇觉无趣。岂料局后，老哥们苦
着脸跟我们学生开玩笑，当然是背着老板，u know for how many yrs, the
only thing he (指老板） talks to me in the meal is about **&*& (专业名词）。
这个老板的social能力简直不是一般的。。弱。。或者说，他不太需要通过
social活动得到什么，不在乎。毕竟，他当年赖以成名的成就在这很窄的领
域里基本上每个人都知道，没有人能质疑。 无任何的人情事故。60多人了，
不歇着，research还亲自操刀上阵。可这样子，他的group始终做不大。

我知道post-doc 是个临时的职位。但是这个是一个世界500强大公司（johnson &
johnson）的一个职位，他们网站上post出来的这个职位就是叫post-doctoral fellow
。我打开仔细看了一下，也不是跟那个大学联合招post-doctor。他的这个职位需要什
么新产品开发，新技术的推广，还有要出差什么的，跟好像平常的职位差别不大。
但是为什么叫post-doctoral fellow。难道这个公司招的这个职位跟大学实验室招的
post-doc是一个意思吗？还是有不同的叫法。
有点不懂，所以就上来问一下。
而且我想在这个公司的网站上找research scientist，但是看到的有关research的，需
要phd职位的，好像都是叫做post-doctoral fellow.
有人知道johnson&johnson这个职位的意思吗？ |

播及应用做出杰出贡献的数学工作者。经美国数学会决定，首批受邀会士必须至少在国
际数学家大会做过邀请报告，美国数学会组织的大会和国际工业与应用数学家大会做过
特邀大会报告，或者获得过美国数学会颁发的研究奖项。在3万左右美国数学会会员当
中，首批受邀会士1000人左右。今后每年将选出70名左右新会士，预计10年后达到1700
人左右,占总会员人数的5%。
入选AMS首届会士者，堪称全球数学家的翘楚，但也不是唯一标准——因解决庞加莱猜
想而享誉全球的的俄罗斯隐士科学家佩雷尔曼（Grigori Perelman）等多位菲尔兹奖得

首先州执照不是考的，是申请的。住院医生和fellow用的都是training license，不是
正式的full state license。只有你决定最后在哪个州执业以后，才需要正式申请那个
州的执照，手续非常繁复，需要好几个月，特别是对FMG.
至于board certificate，是全国统一的考试，每个住院医生不论在什么州都需要参加
的，至于州执照需不需要board certificate，根据不同州有不同规定。
申请fellow的时候不需要california letter,因为你有一年多的时间从fellow match到
正是上班，医院会要求你在这段时间里完成california letter的申请。 |

俺每周两天的门诊，三天实验室。和俺同一年的fellow每周三天半门诊。
基本每天都有一到两小时的lecture.每周要学本专业的textbook一个chapter,textbook
有三大本啊，书太厚了。
每周一次内科grand round lecture,每周一次儿科grand round lecture,每周一次儿科
的interesting case,每月一次本专业的journal club,每月两次本专业的interesting
case.
哦，本月要写个case report, 写一个review文章的一个章节，还要把自己的research
proposal的简单版本给写出来，和系头讨论。
除此之外，还要准备我的执照考试。看书写东西忙的我头大。
on call嘛，平均每三周on call一周，要管全院和VA的in pt consult,还有儿科病人收
到我们科的也要管（好在有儿科住院医生先去做admission).平均一周2-5个consult.
四个门诊的location,还有两个还没有去过。新的EMR用的还不熟。VA的computer

今天在医院碰到renal的第一年的fellow,以前是芝加哥哪家医院的chief resident;还
又遇到血液肿瘤的第一年的fellow,以前是wake Forrest Univ.的chief resident;他们
都好忙，走路快，边走边电话和别人交流病情。俺到现在连医院ER,病房，还有两个门
诊在哪里都不知道。不着急，大不了提前几分钟去，问下路人就知道了。EMR不会用，
也不着急，到时候问senior fellow,attending,就成了。俺主要把该写的东西给按时写
出来，再看看书，把board给考掉再说。俺和PD说了，考前请假9天好让俺复习。 |

Let me also congratulate the three faculty members who became fellows of
the American Physical Society.It was much easier to become a fellow in
the old days. A nuclear theory buddy of mine (whose name I will withhold)
became a fellow simply for helping an old lady across the street. The
fact that she did not want to cross the street didn't seem to bother the
committee. |
