用英语来讲，好像是“arch”，
像中世纪前最大的建筑，伊斯坦布尔的圣索菲亚大教堂，就是一个个连续的石头“arch
”组合起来，合成巨大的穹顶。
但是中国古代没有这个复杂的技术，只会造单一的拱，如拱桥，而当时大型木建筑必须
靠大柱子来支撑，但是柱子多了，还是造不出大教堂那种巨大空旷的穹顶，因为下面有
一堆柱子立着很难看，不实用。像大型的太和殿，室内也是不得不立上柱子。
所以中国的柱子支撑的木结构屋子不会建的特别大。

很小的时候看过的《Star Wars》，后来陆陆续续看过一些novelization和属于legends
的外传，关于Sith的起源等等，玩过一些星战游戏，但是都没有很系统地钻研这个系列。
最近在跟娃们一起看《Clone Wars》系列，就跟娃一起补了一下课，把《Star Wars》
里面的Canon都又复习了一遍，从图书馆借来了六部蓝光收藏版，把deleted scenes和
制作过程的记录片也看了一遍，包括演员采访，卢卡斯访谈，还有visual artists的访
谈等等。
这卢卡斯不近就靠这个系列吃了一辈子，还养活了一堆人，包括做电影的，写小说的（
以Star Wars fictional universe为题材的小说就不下一百本，当然，大多数都只有
legends的地位，canon还是原来的那几个电影加上《Clone Wars》的电视系列片。
关于星战人物背景和武器装备已经有无数的coffee table books了，最近在图书馆找到
一本星战和地球历史背景的书，跟娃们一起过了一遍。

“帝国”、“新帝国”乃至“新帝国主义”，其实都不是什么新概念。在西方国家
，特别是美国，近来人们之所以热烈地讨论这一话题，文章铺天盖地，首先是缘于“9
·11”事件，其后则是因为发生了伊拉克战争。美国在伊拉克取得的令人敬畏的胜利，
在知识分子圈子里再度点燃了有关“美利坚帝国”的争论。1在媒体的专栏中，认为美
国是“新罗马”（"new Rome"）的评论连篇累牍。当然，这些文章中绝大多数是持批判
性观点，但也确有一些人越来越愿意接受一个他们先前曾激烈反对过的思想，即他们的
国家是一个帝国。他们渴望相信这样一点，即存在着一种新型帝国，而这种帝国对美国
和世界都是有益的。

刚看了 余秋雨在奥运时候的 博客，他说 世界上曾经如此大规模的欢迎过世界各国来
宾的其实只有一个国家，就是中国，什么时候？唐代的长安，尽管那个时候谈不上奥运
会，但是你想想看，这是什么概念？当时的罗马城不到五万人，长安是100万人，70几
个外交社团，我们长安城里面吃的是阿拉伯面食，用的是罗马一粟，看的是印度杂技，
穿的是波斯的服装，世界各国的宗教在我们那儿都有他们的教堂，中国人已经很习惯于
用平静的心态面对丝绸之路来的各国的客人，这种平和的心境，从容的心境希望能够在
我们新的世纪不仅复活，而且更好的弘扬。

真的很震撼。

以有一些post doc的职位。 我很幸运的被一所Top5的学校录取。 同去的有另外10个人
，全部都是top10毕业的，也就是说，我是唯一一个烂校去的。
这种post doc比较特殊， 叫fellow，不用跟老板做任何研究。 其实就是给钱我做自己
的研究（钱少了点，自然的）。 他们assign了一个mentor给我，是个大牛。 这个
mentor不是我的领域-- 系里根本没有人做我的领域。 我和他的沟通有些问题。
我有一个新paper，上周我跟他说了一个基本的idea。 他一开始说，这个idea没有
empirical support。 可是这个基本概念非常浅显，trival到没有人做empirical work
。 他就说没有data support的不能叫fact。
这周我再和他谈，他又说这个概念这么浅显，不可能别人没有想到。 他说他”读了很
多我的领域的文章“，让我不要糊弄他。
事实上，别人没有做。。。。。。那个概念确实浅显，可是在我的领域，是被大大的忽

发帖数: 293 | 37 上周GOTHAM终于更新了，经过将近半年的夏荒区开始接上了，昨天随便在网上溜了一下结果发现empire和how to get away with murder 也更新了，就迫不及待的看了，相对比哥谭的平淡，empire和murder 太让人感到惊艳了。
上一季终，哥谭里的鱼妈fish之死让我感到意外，太喜欢鱼妈了，尤其是换了眼睛之后，太有范了，结果好不容易历经千辛万苦回来最后又被小企鹅给推下水，不知道是不是被编剧给收拾了，希望还能看见鱼妈。这一季除了Gordon被企鹅给逼去杀人之外倒是没有其他的意料之外的事。芭芭拉的黑化还在继续，小丑的表演也还没开始，新的反派（忘了叫什么了，不过妹子挺酷的）也没展示恐怖力而我们的Bruce还在和管家炸洞玩儿，希望后面能够精彩。
相对于哥谭的平淡，empire和murder就太让我感到出乎意料了，看完新一季第一集的empire只能感叹姜还是老的辣，遭遇牢狱之灾的Lucious竟然能够通过电视就能察觉他老婆cookie和咪咪有阴谋，从而完成第一次反转，让大小老婆和老大、老三和吃屎了一样；相对于第一次反转的老奸巨猾第二次的反转Lucious则表现的霸气侧漏，... 阅读全帖 |
