洛杉矶地区没有最好的私立高中，只有最合适的私立高中。四所最严格私立高中是
Flintridge Prep, Pasadena Poly, Webb 和 Harvard-Westlake. 有些人可能会说最严
格的就是最好的，但对于大部分学生来说这种说法不对。对于大部分学生来说这种严格
的学校压力过大，每晚五小时的家庭作业 (脑子好使的), 加上周末，从九年级开始就
用大学程度课本。再加上2到3小时的体育训练或者演奏练习，加上社团，公共服务，和
课外活动。在申请大学的时候，大学不会因为你上一所非常难的私立学校，而对你网开
一面，反而在这里更难拿到好成绩。
最好从你所居住的周围开始咨询，因为你不会想要每天开很远的路程。就算是比较不那
么难的学校每晚也有3到4小时的家庭作业。有些学校有非常强的运动计划或者艺术计划
，所以选什么学校完全看你需要什么。不要太看中升学率，因为那主要取决与学生而不
是学校。

Statistics is more like engineering than math.
Many math guys think statistics is not as rigorous as math and

Mitbbs网友愿意支持，我想有几十个支持就很好了）。计划明天伦敦工作日内发出。
抗议信也吸收了许多许多支持者的建议，尽量避免情绪化。但是我们还是不会拘泥于文章
的事实/逻辑问题，而会明白说出文章隐含的偏见色彩。我现在认为抗议本身也许能够
延伸出如何定义我们这个群体的public image,以及如何消除西方媒体民众对我们群体
image的stereotype的问题。当然这个不是小小一个抗议能起效的，明天我会写一个长
贴和大家讨论讨论

Do you have anything to say about a belief in high complexity & order(life)
created out of spontaneous, random thermodynamics (a null probability event
IMHO), without rigorous proof?
You didn't hesitate to call such a belief/theory/hypothesis a "fact" as in "
evolution is a fact".
If you are a scientist, you shall distinguish between "fact" and "theory/
hypothesis", and be clear about the line between "faith" and "science".

掏垃圾和探索宇宙奥义属于同一个层级吧。
人格上的”尊重“是一码子事，重视数学思维的重要性又是另一码子事。
最主要的问题是，很多生物索男，自己数学不行，还瞧不上数学，觉得数学不过尔尔，
不懂数学也不愿意自学一点数学，还懒得跟数学家合作，于是很多意义重大的生物学问
题不能像很多正儿八经的学科一样，用数学的方法rigorously的解决，导致生物每年消
耗天文数字的经费，结果依然还在博物学的层级上躺着。
（如果argue说”生物问题太复杂了根本不能用数学解决“，uncomputable? OK，但是
这个uncomputable的结论也需要rigorously的证明。总不能有人问P等于NP咩，你回答
”操这问题太他妈难现在的人类知识解决不了“吧，你总得证明“解决不了”吧）

今年初，美国科学促进会（AAAS）和皮尤研究中心（Pew Research Center）联合公布
的一项调查显示，88％的科学家认为转基因食品可安全食用，持这一看法的公众只有37
％。报告认为差距如此之大的一个可能原因是，三分之二的公众认为科学家对转基因食
品的健康后果没有清晰认识。这就是真正的原因吗？
根据报告全文，皮尤中心给19，984名科学家发出了调查问卷，3748人（18.8%）完成了
问卷调查。其中生物医学学科背景的科学家占50%。报告没有说明50%的生物医学背景是
否能够代表科学家总体的学科构成。更大问题是在这50%的科学家人群中，有多少人的
工作是与转基因作物的研究有关，以什么样的方式相关。报告没有提供任何信息。

dis-proofs. No much rigorous analysis has been conducted, so I may miss things

measure-theoretic course which systematically and rigorously studies what
you learned in a calculus-based course. You have to know at least Lebesuge
measure theory. If you don't, I strongly recommend you take a real analysis
or measure theory class first.
Measure theory is essential is you want to know rigorous probability or do
research in probability and statistics. |

发帖数: 1542 | 50 看完了录像了，深有感触啊。七个哈佛医学生毕业后十几年的轨道截然不同, 一半以上HMS的医生混的很惨，基本都离婚(two medical students couple divorced and both remarried, the JHK eye doctor divorced, Tom divorced three times)，有的还被解雇(Tom)，或者干别的什么了(the black lady)。只有one duke professor混的好。
医生的这个职业risks太太太大了，吃医生这碗饭真不容易啊！而且没有tenure...
