章很麻烦，耽误了2个多月，材料才得以从学校寄出。个人觉得申请算是比较顺利。把
我当时准备的情况跟大家说一下也许对将要申请的人有一点帮助。
我个人从这里寄出去的材料包括：
1.国内护士执照的公正，在这里网上找的公证处，在纽约，叫最佳公正，电话
7183212810
2.指纹卡，就在我住的地方的警察局办的，free
3.handbook上的申请表，贴一张照片在右下角（handbook链接：http://www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/applicants/exam-app.pdf）
这一页有一项是填社会安全号，我当时没有就空着的，没有关系。
4.两张支票，一张办指纹的($51)，一张申请的($75)
5.写了一封信，表示感谢，一张纸，很客气的几句话
从学校寄出的材料：
1.中英文成绩单（学校有，我来之前到学校教务处办好的）
2.学位证书和毕业证书中英文版（来之前自己办好到学校教务处办好的，盖好了章）
3.课程描述9门（内外妇儿、精神科护理、生理、解剖、免疫、微生物，好像是这些，

费力也可能费

我开始进入到一种好辩的模式，对别人的言语进行条件反射式地挑刺，质疑，然后是反
驳，辩解，拿出一副得理不饶人的架势，想要获得一种高人一等，压人一筹的优越感。
尽管最后我以一种胜利者的姿态获得了众多人的关注，可是在以后的交流中，别人却总
是有意无意地对我的言论爱搭不理，甚至选择忽视。

clothes”基本上已经把主要精神写出来了。这个公司（这个公司本身煞笔不煞笔不是
我关心的。市场会告诉它如果它该倒闭的话）。穆斯林头巾肯定不是该公司的产品。也
肯定不会像是类似的产品。那么经理根据公司的着装标准，判断穆斯林女员工的头巾不

官方的解释。
这个警察认为，RAMP已经是HIGHWAY的一个车道，所以无所谓哪条车道优先级高，而且
他们警察在执法时所依据的交规具体条文（CODE）中也没有明确要求刚上高速的车要让
已经在高速上的车。
不过正象这篇文章中所指出的那样，在普通司机所能够拿到的司机手册（HANDBOOK）中
是说已经在高速上的车有路权，而且这个HANDBOOK和CODE都是由DMV颁布的。
所以我认为如果这样的事故上法庭的话，法官应该是有极大的可能认定新上高速的车负
责。
另外这篇报道中也没有支持“如果你左边没车，你得让”这一观点。很多人开车的时候
，遇到新上高速的车，可能的话会换到左道以方便另一辆车进入高速。这么做于人于己
都有利，但这不是说这就是他们的义务。
至于文章中那个警察的FREEWAY和HIGHWAY不同的观点，更像是他咬文嚼字的自娱自乐了
。美国很多词的定义都不是那么清晰明确的，负责也不会有DRIVE ON PARKWAY AND
PARK ON DRIVEWAY了。 |

donation etc? A lot of private university fund are taking a huge hit in
2008. Also, if it is a university, as a professor on a tenure track, how

teach to get tenured (check out the faculty handbook!!!). Also, like the

本来只是想修一堂英文写作课,在美国时间也有5-6年了,英文水平还只是停留在一般的
基础上(日常用语和专业用语).没想到修一门最基础的英文写作课提高写作水平，却留
下了一个终生遗憾的印记…
在一个open enrollment 的学校上课,就是你付钱,就可以上的那种.老师是一个教学风
格很随便的,上课开玩笑,讲sport,一共一学期15课,还安排了2堂课看电影,一个是
wedding crashers..第一堂课是introduction和test,一堂课因为特殊情况被cancelled
了,所以连头到尾算起来就是11节课.而课的assignments是两篇文章,每篇3个draft.第
一和第二个draft不会算分,professor只写comments,只有最后一个draft才会算分.学期
的总分就是两篇作文的最后分数加课堂表现.
在上课之前从来没有想到自己会被plagiarism这个词栽跟头.也没有想到美国人对这个
concept看成是steal,和cheater一样.这个老师的思维是美国式教学.他是美国人,上课

的. 不要辞职. 既然系主任违背faculty handbook, 只要你有证据, 就appeal. 就算不
能成功,你的系主任如果真的违背了faculty handbook,也吃不了兜着走.

任怎么处理,系主任会给建议,不会因为这个remove学生. 我这如果老师怀疑undergrad
cheating, 都要先通报系主任. 以前出过faculty认为学生cheating要fail学生(之前没
问系里),结果那些学生的parents都来了. 最后系里认定那个faculty证据不足(因为那
些学生问TA问题,而TA给那些学生一样答案),强调我们碰到这种事情一定要问上面. 我
们这还有学生直接跳过系里,直接向管学生的associate dean反映faculty不follow
handbook,这种情况处理起来就更麻烦 (事实上,很多人都不会仔细读handbook的) |

When you work for an university, I bet you didn't go read the handbook
mentioned in the employment contract. It is not only for biology, actually
a lot university made a lot more money from IPs generated from engineer
schools. Be honest with you, the research doesn't belong to the professor
either, the schools or institutes usually take 50% cut.

因为research在前两年是否突出，不能定量
评价.
teaching占比较大比重的学校，
faculty handbook非常重要.
有的学校是否续contract就靠前七个礼拜的表现，
我认为签约之前要搞明白.
有的学校虽然没有faculty union，
在faculty handbook里面清楚的标明了
faculty应有的权利. 这样的地方faculty 是被尊重的.
而我研究过的马里兰和新泽西的学校，
都是可无理由fire新人的，上面只字未提
faculty能做什么.
一般要在onsite的时候问清楚.
当然如果你只有唯一offer，那只有跳坑

我看了下他们学校的tenure handbook，上面说第4年是review for promotion to
associate。然后第5年是associate term begins。Harvard的associate professor是
没有tenure的，要在第7年被review for promotion to tenured professor，如果pass
了，第8年是final year of associate term or tenured professor.
那么这个教授为什么第6年还是AP。handbook上没写，如果没被promote to associate
，会怎么样。

我想把小孩停止上一个DAYCARE,于是我提前30天给他们NOTICE说QUIT.
他们说他们的POLICY是, 在五月或六月QUIT, 不退DEPOSIT. 大概$700.
我说, 我在他们的HANDBOOK POLICY没看见这条, 今天他们给我一个HANDBOOK, 我一看
和我现有的
不一样.我现有的是去年三月的版本, 他今天给我的是去年六月的版本.在新的版本里,
写了"在五月或
六月QUIT, 不退DEPOSIT".我门孩子是从去年七月开始上的, 但注册在五月.
大家给说一下着事怎么处理?是谁的错? |

好，然后他又说我从这个fiscal year开始只做了9个月，没到一年，欠了公司2.5天的
annual leave，要我按2.5天的工资还。真是奇怪了，我personal leave和sick leave
都没用完，以前要请personal leave老板都极力游说我先用annual leave，现在sick
leave和personal leave没用完就算自己浪费掉的，annual leave倒要算我钱。更可气
的是，我翻出以前的handbook看公司规定，我刚进公司的半年没给我一天假，明明就是
违反他们handbook上所谓的probation期间也有年假的规定，还反咬我一口。我有些生
气，在电话里对HR说that's not fair，他马上改口说那你来辞职的时候我们再商量个
数额赔给公司好吧……
以前由于房间不通气，我晕倒在公司一次，被送到急诊室。那时候已经工作9个月了，
愣是拖着还没给我买保险（别的员工3个月probation一过就给买保险，我的probation

度很大的各种训练。。我不常来逛这个坛子，因为我家孩子让我担心的地方，和这里家
长们通常讨论的东西，根本搭不上边。。大家在讨论怎么推娃，上什么兴趣班的时候，
我担忧的是怎么以后能够让娃生活自理，自立而不拖累这个社会，怎么学会和人交流（
说话都是其次的），奢侈点的想法是，怎么主流化，怎么能够自己有一个somewhat
meaningful的生活，父母离开人世的时候，也能让孩子可以有尊严的活着。我们这样家
庭的种种challenge，不是常人能够理解的，我也从没有奢望过普通父母能体会我们的
痛苦。。。但是看到了最近的热贴，有些id对我们这些可怜的家庭们的各种不太善意的
猜测，非常震惊。当然，也同时看到很多general ed， gifted ed的家长们的同情和爱
心，和让人温暖感动的话，在这里也想替我们这些家庭，谢谢你们的支持。

I received my bonus from my first job after I left the company. I left in
January and the employee handbook states that I would be eligible if I am an
active employee at the end of the calendar year.
