最后，预测一下the Big One的epicenter, 想必是去年（10/30/07）的Magnitude 5.4
event near Alum Rock处无疑，因为this event (/30/07 Magnitude 5.4 event
near
Alum Rock)，将弯曲最危险的Hayward fault （现在处于150年的窗口期）与另一条大
致沿I-680走向的Calaveras fault连在一起。不过，南湾鬼谷的同学大可放心，大部分
鬼谷的office buildings都不太高，且不少是1995年后建造的。再加上大部分鬼谷的
single family houses也是1995年后建造的，均符合1995年发布的新抗震规范的要求。
只是在最危险的是三藩及Oakland的Downtown的high-rise office buildings上班的各
位，小心驶得万年船，take care.

不过由于南湾的发展，黑人都被挤出去了，所以现在的治安比当年是好多了。至少杀人
放火的恶性案件不太有。但是因为老墨多，学区肯定是不行的。中国人也有一些住那里
，都是想住便宜的新房子，不考虑学区的。 |

时间：5PM~7PM
钓法：用买的minnow先钓到Saugeye几条，大约六点多，用Walmart买的大蚯蚓钓到1 lb
多的walleye一条，期间发现大鱼开始穿出水面追小鱼吃。突然挂minnow的小杆点了几
下，我以为又是小saugeye，突然set hook，发现很沉，遛了几圈，用抄网搞定。
以前只钓到过一条walleye，今天一下上了两条。very lu'c'k'y！

很多时候，律师这个专业，是以law school为准，分帮派分山头的，上学以前就要知道
自己在哪里工作，什么方向，那个方向里有alum的支持，这才是3年以后有事业的基础
。我找intern的时候，都是找自己的alum，别的不是alum的partner根本就不回信，
alum做partner的，竟然还回信说：第一我们从来不要1L，你明年再申请，第二你再联

谋杀之都”的奥克兰(Oakland). 当年他也是一刚毕业的台湾穷留学生。70年代的台湾
留学生和我们80，90年代的大陆留学生一样的穷。也是得偷偷打黑工才能把书读完的主
。他刚工作不久，想开源多赚点钱，就想着买个房子出租收租金。可没钱啊。就花了两
万块在Alum Rock买了个破烂房。换了个简陋的地毯，墙上刷上层漆，就租给一户墨西
哥非法移民。
大家问，你不怕老墨不付租金？老板说，其实这非法移民比合法的烂人要守规矩。他怕
你告到移民局去，一般都按时缴租。可有一样，他们就是省那个邮票钱。你不去上门讨
，他们是不会给你寄来的。有一次，他下班去上门收租金，一进门，刚拿到租金，“啪
”的一声，一颗子弹从窗子外射进来，打在头顶天花板上。吓得他抱住头，一下子趴在
地上，半天没敢起来。过了一回儿，没动静了，悄悄抬起头，见那老墨一家大小，像看

lot大，人少，尤其是east
highlands那块，有view，很多房子2M以上。另外Toyon Ave, Fleming Ave沿线也都挺
不错的。现
在有人把golf球场那一片类比willow glen，可能就是因为大部分是白人住在那里吧。

after the M 5.4 31 October 2007 Alum Rock Earthquake is just possible but
not for sure.
However, the Calaveras fault has experienced a northwest-progressing series
of moderate earthquakes since 1979 comprised of the 1979 M 5.9 Coyote Lake
event, the 1984 M 6.2 Morgan Hill earthquake, and the 1988 M 5.0 Alum Rock

最近两年偶主要从事弯曲本地的多层及single family houses设计，与鬼谷的同学接触
很多。这才惊觉原来鬼谷的single family houses几乎90%以上是1995年前建造的。So

如果不爬到LeConte的顶一般的旅游鞋就够了。Alum Cave trail到那个叫Alum Cave
Bluffs的洞那2迈多很好走，坡度不大。不过山顶的风景比半山腰好太多。要是全走下
来大概10迈多一些，我们当时走了将近6个小时，包括山顶逗留半个多小时，还有中途
各景点搔首弄姿照相。另外下山下雨走的慢，要是天气好，不需要这么久。
也没啥必去的点，我觉得很多地方风景都差不多。有时间走走blue ridge parkway进山
，没时间就算了。要去Cades Cove就趁早，否则里面车开得慢压着你急死人。
其他的点，Clingmans Dome, Newfound Gap,可以参考版面其他帖子，最近大雾山的帖
子层出不穷。
其实最直接的就是一去先问visitor center，告诉他们你想要看的东西。他们会根据你
的情况推荐。比如我就直接说我想看好风景，不在乎爬山难易，所以ranger直接就给推
荐了alum cave这条，压根没提人民群众喜闻乐见的laurel falls. |

on不用caulking的＂，是骗人的。俺补caulking了。。。 |

SAN JOSE -- A 3.4-magnitude earthquake was reported at 10:12 p.m. Thursday
about 5 miles east of the Alum Rock neighborhood of San Jose.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake was about 4
miles deep and on the Calaveras Fault.
San Jose emergency dispatchers said they didn't receive any calls regarding
the earthquake shortly after it occurred. |
