1:35:36 for the 1st half, 1:44:30 for the 2nd half.
Vancouver Marathon is my home run and also it's my first marathon here 2
years ago.
The weather was super nice yesterday, sunny but not hot. I arrived the site
around 7am, and lined up for
washroom. 5 minutes before the starting time, I slipped into the crowd with
3:40 pace group.
I have to find my way in the first 2 miles with crowd. Then I was on my own
pace. I was running on a pace
faster than my MP training and finished the 10k in 45:53. I felt a big
excited as the pace was somehow faster
than I thought and my legs were doing good.
The 1st half was finished pretty good and I only felt a bit sore with legs.
I had to admit that I was a bit high
with the flat 1st half. I knew it is still too early to predict the final
result but I was dreaming I may BQ in
3:15:00. I knew the 2nd half were not easy but I had under-estimated the
hilly 2nd half course.
At round 28k, we ran cross the Burrard bridge. Inspired by the cheering
girls, I ran passed others with smile.
The course is now full of slopes and I realized my legs were heavier now. I
still recall that my lower abdomen
was painful last year after 32k and hoped this year would be better.
Unfortunately, it's about 33k and my
lower abdomen was painful again, not acute but lasting.
I knew that BQ was impossible after 30K but I still believed that I could
beat my last year's time. Both feet were
hurting like needle pinching with every landing. To cross the Burrard bridge
2nd times was gruelling around
39K. I picked up some pace after 40K and smiled in front of the camera at
the finish line. I could barely walk
after dashing to the finish line. The legs were painful and my feet was
hurting as well. I knew that I had
pushed myself hard, although still 5 minutes away from BQ. I have no regret.
I was following the advanced 18 wks training plan by Hal Higdon. Milage was
around 40~55mpw. There is
one speed/interval session every week. All long runs went well with slower
pace. The treadmill helped me a lot
every night to keep up with the training plan. Foam roller is helpful,
preventing ITBS for me.
Just to share with all runners here the cheering signs I saw yesterday at
around 34k when everyone was tired
after a long uphill slope.

t**h 发帖数: 229 | 15 Yes. I was too high in the first half. Maybe a slower start can result in a
better overall time. But 315 can be hard. Actually, I checked the race
results and found many runners have a positive split like me, given the
slopes and bridges in the 2nd half. Anyway, a better running plan for the
course can definitely be helpful.

need to run hood to coast relay at the end of August and going to a climbing
trip to Yosemite in late September. Hope we can run Birch Bay next Feb
together, either 1/2 or full.
