Running in the rain is fun, but there is a trade-off between the fun and the
possible cold.

to get it done. Fun is secondary.:)

y******n 发帖数: 4527 | 6 Believe it or not, I am the person who is really easy to get a cold. My
symptom is to sneeze A LOT even I get some wind blowing. Entering an air
conditioned room in the summer and frequently go in and out of a house in
the winter are the likely case for me to sneeze, and it is hard to stop.
Maybe it is related to allergy as well, but none of doctors that I've seen
gave me a cure.
Only thing I can do is to keep warm and try to avoid the chance to get a
cold.
Training is important and I have to find a gym. That is all I can do.

sneeze and don't have a sore throat nor
weakness in the body, I don't think there is anything to worry about.

y******n 发帖数: 4527 | 16 Thank you, it does happen.
The rain stopped at around 3pm. I went out, ran back home first, grabbed my
gps and HRM, and did a 4*1200m interval session as scheduled. The fourth one
was tough.
Then a nearly 2 mile cool down and come back to office.

y******n 发帖数: 4527 | 17 man, that is something I seriously worry about. When I am in an airplane, in
somebody else's apartment, in public, or anywhere I can possibly be blown
by cold or cool wind, I had to prepare napkin in hand in order to clean
after sneeze.
I went to see doctors because of this. Doctors said nobody was allergic to
cold or heat, but the temperature change could trigger your symptom. Then
what can I do? Doctors asked me to try different medicines and none of them
work well so far.

z***h 发帖数: 164 | 18 There happens to be an article on NYTimes today about people susceptible to
cold. It basically says that these
symptoms are actually not caused by cold viruses, which are mostly harmless,
but by the response of immune
system. Therefore, people with more active immune systems may be more prone
to cold. It doesn't really tell us
how to avoid the symptoms, but argues that these symptoms are mostly
harmless nuisances.

T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 20 Do you often have running nose as well? if you do, you may have allergic
Sinusitis, which of course is another fancy name made by doctors that have
no cure.
Have you tried saline nasal sprays, or simply salty water, to clean your
nasal passages? It maybe reduce your symptom, or even prevent it from
happening. It's easy to do, and doesn't cost you much.

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 22 over the counter nasal spray almost never works. I had pretty bad spring
allergy a couple years ago and the
medicated over the counter spray made it much worse. I ended up with such
bad rebound congestion that I
had to see the doctor, and was prescribed some steroid based nasal spray
which cured my nasal congestion
right away. if I get outdoor allergies, I'd use zyrtec.

y******n 发帖数: 4527 | 23 50% races in the rain are not usual and you had a bit of bad luck:)
But training in the rain or on wet ground does provide you the experience in
a possible bad race day. Your body is wet anyway but your feet barely get
wet if you only train in a good day.

T****a 发帖数: 4651 | 24 don't get me started with a string of bad luck with mother nature on race
days, but i guess runners are used to it. you take what's given to you,
sometimes good and sometimes bad, eventually all evened out.
on the subject of sinusitis and other types of allergies, western medicine
has provided only temporary relief so far. many meds will lose their
efficacy if you take it for a long period of time. but, i have heard stories
that acupuncture actually worked, and you only needed to do it a few times
a year. chances are you can find one in boston area (certainly in NYC), so
you may want to give it a try.
