Sales, Says Report
It seems techies just can't seem to get enough. The second a device is out
of the gate, the rumor mill about the next-gen version begins churning, and
that's exactly what's happening with the Samsung Galaxy S5. Samsung's next
flagship smartphone is now rumored to rear its head as early as January.
Korean news outlet Naver claims to have gotten an inside scoop on when
Samsung's next major mobile device will be released. Presumably, it will be
the Galaxy S5 (thus continuing the "Galaxy S" moniker), and presumably,
Samsung will announce it January 2014.
While Samsung has not officially commented on the matter, the reasoning
behind the early reveal apparently has to do with poor Galaxy S4 sales. The
Samsung Galaxy S4 started off to strong sales during the first half of 2013,
but reports indicate that interest in the device has tapered off. This is a
major concern for Samsung, which relies heavily on the Galaxy S smartphone
to drive its mobile presence. If the unconfirmed Naver report is correct,
then Samsung is indeed looking to turn around sales figures by introducing a
newer, shiner device earlier.
Samsung typically announces its Galaxy S smartphones sometime between
February and March.
While there's nothing officially known about the Galaxy S5, speculation
about the handset indicates it could be a potential game changer for Samsung
. For starters, the Galaxy S5 is said to sport a metal casing, something
previous Galaxy S phones have not. The Galaxy S5 is also said to come with a
64-bit eight-core Samsung processor, as well as a 16-megapixel camera.
Expect the latest version of Android at the time of launch.
