那个应该更激进,那个应该更保守?为什么。 | K****D 发帖数: 30533 | 2 Roth > 401K > Regular.
For roth, if you earn 1 billion, you still pay 0 tax.
For 401k, the more you earn, the more tax you pay after retirement.
For regular, the more your earn, the more tax you pay from time to
time.

| S**C 发帖数: 2964 | 3 Well I am in the opposite camp. ROTH is mine, if I win I win, if I lose,
well then I lose, so I am going to be more conservative. For 401k, if I lose
, then US also take some hit.
In taxable, I could harvest loss. While I do not intend to be aggressive in
taxable, since most of my bond portion is in tax-deferred account, taxable
has to be the most aggressive because of its equity-heavy nature.

It's harder to fund Roth and 401K if you lose your principle.
Also, 401K has limited choice, has highest fee.
Roth has higher fee than regular account.
I wonder how do these play in the picture.

| g*****g 发帖数: 34805 | 6 That's typically the case. Because
1. Your Roth is typically smaller than your regular,
so if there's annual fee, it costs a higer %
2. There are less brokers doing this. If you trade
heavily, the transaction fee is a lot compared to
some discount brokers like IB.

Well, at least more profit == more risk.
If you play safe, then what's the point? Say you doubled your
Roth in 30 years. You wouldn't need to pay much in tax if
the money were in regular account anyway.
In the other hand, you've 10x your regular account and have
to pay a lot of tax along the road... You'll really wish that
they were in Roth. Of course, if you achieve this 10x by
constant betting (if there is a loss, then I double my chips
and bet again), then that's too aggressive for Roth. The aggressive
I am talking about is considering a fixed principle or with
very little injection, like Roth. In another word, swinging from
50% cash to 0% cash is already very aggressive to me.

| c*****x 发帖数: 429 | 8 401k is no different from Roth IRA as long as you realize that you own only
one portion of its and its future gains; and uncle Sam owns the other
portion (depending on your tax rate at withdrawal) and its future gains. So
risk-wise, you treat them in the same way. This assuming you have a rough
idea of your future tax rate.
I will take more risk in taxable accounts, for the simple reason that, in
the case of large losses (more likely for riskier investments), I can do tax
loss harvesting. | S**C 发帖数: 2964 | 9 Guys tend to assume they will never ever experience a low earned income
period so converting traditional to ROTH is not an option. Well, even if one
never loses job in extended period of time, how about retiring earlier and
convert part to ROTH at low rate?
only
So
tax
