banks, GS is facing much less competition. record profits are due to the
larger spreads, and the recovery of the market. however, GS is not an IB any
more. It couldn't have survived as one.

it's the only way to retain the top traders because they are smart and they
can earn as much in other banks, hfs, that is their market value. and by not
retaining them, the US banks will lose competitive edge and end up losing
more.

Back to money and research. There is one thing good coming out of
this crisis which is a windfall of research funding available. From
dealing with those investors it's obvious that I don't have enough
knowledge or insight as for as how money market works. Anybody does
