This is a hand I watched at BBO. North-South are BBO stars. West-east are
labeled as World Class by themselves. The bidding looks normal:
S W N E
1C P 1D P
2NT P 3NT AP
West leads H6. It is not my choice, but looks the best for the layout. East
plays 9, and South ducks. East continues heart with Q, and south wins,
discarding a spade from dummy. South cashes CA.
Just for fun, let's guess how they continue to play the hand.
What do you think south should play now, and what do you guess he played? | b***y 发帖数: 2804 | | i****e 发帖数: 642 | 3 That will be my choice too, and it seems to be the reasonable one.
On the table, sound played small D, K won the trick.
If you were at this point, I would think you would play a spade, right?
That is not the declarer's play again. He played C to hand. Okay, still the
hand is not deat. What do you play here? What do you guess he played?
【在 b***y 的大作中提到】 : A small spade?
| b***y 发帖数: 2804 | 4 Looks like declarer already screwed up the communications. There are some
lay-outs that he will go down now no matter what. Anyway, with nothing
better to do, I would just cash clubs first (pitching 1H 1S from hand), then
play SQ. If that is ducked, I will continue with a low diamond to DQ, and
pray.

and world class played.
He played the same as you, a club, but he did not finesse! I thought it must
be a mis-click, and expected undo. He did not undo, and quickly played
another club. West won this gift, and thought for a long time. The stupid
south started to complain west for slow playing.
EW had 5 winners now, but west exited with a diamond in the end. South won
the gift, cashed H winner, and played a small spade.
I did not track the later play, and the result was 10 tricks for south!
I know one can label self as world class. But you can't label yourself as a
star, can you? Both NS are stars!

made 9 tricks. :-)
A couple of other notes:
1) Star players are assigned, but that just mean they had some success in
tournament play. Most of them are good, but not all are experts.
2) We don't know the condition of online play. Maybe the declarer got
distracted by his cat (or girlfriend)...
