Chu "obtained biochemical and genetic evidence that DNA-PKcs is indeed
required for signaling events that lead to induction of innate cytokines,
such as IL-6 and IL-12. We demonstrate that bacterial DNA and ISS-ODN
activate DNA-PKcs, which can phosphorylate the IKKβ subunit of the IKK
complex to cause NF-κB activation. Both DNA-PKcs and IKKβ are essential
for induction of cytokines in response to bacterial DNA and ISS-ODN."
