Search for "GAP insurance". That's what covers the situation. For BMW
leasing, GAP insurance is included in the acquisition fee.
This is actually an advantage of leasing. In a total loss you pretty much
lose nothing financially.
This also means you should not put any down payment in a lease. Because you
will lose it when you have a total loss and your lease ends.
