I read some of his books a decade ago during a personally difficult time. It
was pretty powerful and uplifting. His theory is much less than a complete
system (like Freud and Jung's), but it focusses on the kind of trouble you
described. |

Dunno about the others, but I really dislike David Brin's uplift
war trilogy. Didn't read any of his work after those.
To me, even though he setup the whole story across the galaxy with
LOTS of diffferent alien races, it feels everything happened somewhere
on earth, and all the aliens behave just like human.
And his stories are very 公式化， characters are very 脸谱化。
just my 2 cents :) |

personally, i don't like them, but they sort of fit in with
your description.
ps. i don't agree with people saying Orson Scott Card and
Douglas Adams lacks depth, because i like them (in fact i

我是看到谢的东西后心生感慨。
不过也确实接触过一些不同类型的人，比如这里有一派都是西方人士，据说他们是
赫拉克利特、柏拉图传承下来的。那些历史上的哲学家，表面上教哲学思辨，实际上
在小圈子里还有提升觉性的秘法传授。(通过里面的人员有所了解，但是没见过顶级高
手）
还有无上师电视台里提到的《the secret doctrine of the Rosicrucians》
也是一个西方流传下来的独立传承。似乎惠特曼也是其中之一，也是讲究的觉性的提升，
uplift consciousness level.一直讲到解脱。玫瑰十字，好神秘的名字。
再有就是一些小说，我倒相信是真实的事情，
比如星星小孩(Ami, Child of the Stars)。
讲到某些高级师父（或许就是明师）没有身体，
