Go check the national debt clock. Excluding the hundreds of trillions of
derivatives, the debt and unfunded liability still add up to 100Ts. US
GDP is 14T only. How to apply this VAT magic to clean it up? Even if you
tax it to 100%, you have to tax it for 7 years straight to mend it for

总之我们这代人到退休什么都晚了，有福利的也变差了。我以前工作过的只有一家公司
有 pension, 不过从我去的那年起，招的新员工就没有了。什么世道啊。（当然我工作了

个iphone给你当礼物。后来家里吃紧，账单往桌上一摊，iphone变成一张三块钱的生日
卡和蛋糕。儿子也无话可说。反正父子一起勒紧裤带，共度难关。
美国政府发行的国债那是另一回事。不过按照现在的interest coverage,是没有任何问
题的。最近几天的数据也没有明显的征兆表示美国政府有违约的风险（若有，国债收益
率会大幅度提高）。

请问，大家读博士时候，做研究的idea都是自己想的，还是老板想的，自己付诸实
施？如果自己没有idea.同时，老板没有idea,或者他的idea都不能称为idea(因为这个
研究已经被别人做过），而没有被别人做过的idea都违反客观规律。
这个时候应该怎么办？
拒绝做他的idea?还是自己慢慢想，想出来再做？还是按照老板的指示，做完交差？

指示，做的所有东西，给出的结果都和他想的相反。他有点不高兴了。现在他提出一个
project,可是这个project被别人做的差不多了，仪器都commercialize了，他还让我搭
仪器。我以前做的，包括现在做的都是unfunded,我猜应该也是跟老板的水平有关系吧。

好像排名UCLA比Cornell好不少。尤其他想做的是financial economics/Macro方向的
同时，问下UCLA第二年开始容易拿到钱么。

seniors have left the department, UCLA is now declining... Also, if you are
interested in financial econometrics, Yongmiao Hong is one of the best you
could have in the world. |

it's not worthwhile to pay the UCLA tuition. Most rankings reflect the
standing 5 years ago or at a even earlier time, and have not reflected the
recent decline in UCLA. |
