determined by the brain injury not the time.
"脑干有点变小了" only means brain atrophy after the trauma.
Insomnia can be seen in post traumatic brain syndrome. It could be a sign
of anxiety and depression so I would suggest to try him on some
antidepressants plus sleep aids, like melatonin, benadryl,or even ambien.

Enid is played stunningly by the plain looking Thora Birch (Kevin's
