你说的没错，领域不同。很多专业杂志换了领域就每人知道
但是我强调得是“几乎没人听说过”，我们实验室将近20个人，做得是细胞／遗传／生
化。。。18个人没听说。。。这也算侧面证明cell research影响力不行吧？毕竟领域
接近啊。
而且不能完全用“新杂志”来解释，很多cell和nature子刊得新杂志因子也不是那么高
，但是在领域里影响还不错。
大家就像一个身边得例子吧，你的研究文章的重要文章那篇综述或者research文章是引
用cell research上得？
当然我不是说cell research就不好，我知道很多国内得实验室被cns screw 得文章就
发到cell research上面 |

main difference is research associate is usually a "permanent" position with
benefits (for example, 401K, free caltrain etc.), while post-doc needs to
renew his/her contract every year. other differences like stanford offers
only J1 for international post-docs, while research associates can have H1.
Salary wise, research associate is a bit more, not significantly. If you can

俺学分析化学的， 做pharmacogenetics.看到药厂招人广告上写的和俺match， 可一个
个申请过去， 都石沉大海。俺这fixed term faculty 没出路， 老板不让当PI， 所以
tunure track 位子拿不到，降到Tech人家不让， 高不成， 低不就， 一个字， 卡。
老板没钱俺就得走人， 老板保他自己。俺这四十多岁了， 转哪去啊?在一小town里，
除了这个医学院， 就没别的机会， 儿子高中了， 不希望搬家， 真是纠结。
最近一，两年， 美国科研领域遭遇了前所未有的经费减缩的严冬，不停地有身边的同
事朋友， 不是老板没经费了， 就是自己当PI的没钱了， 危及到了job security。今
年更多，中国人和印度人被影响最大， 有人已经救济金领完了还找不到位子。整个
Institute到处听到没钱， 砍人的声音， 就没听到哪个组要招人， 即使拿到了一个

发帖数: 986 | 23 最近计划要开始做一个project是用几个deep sequencing方法来检测一种先天遗传疾病
（已被辨认是由一个控制染色体重构的单基因突变造成的）的基因组层面的缺陷（包括
甲基化，乙酰化，长距离转录等等）， 刚从其他搞临床的实验室获得了三个不同病人
（分别具有该基因的不同突变位点）的细胞样品。
这几天阅读了几篇发表在genome research和Nucleic Acids Research的几篇类似的文
章发现这些工作都测了大概几十个病人的样品。一方面由于我们实验室是一个basic
research lab，无法获得更多的人类临床样本，另外一方面目前的funding也不能支持
做太多样品的deep sequencing。
因此想请教一下各位大侠想genome research， Nucleic Acids Research， genome
biology或者Human Mutation这些期刊对于这种疾病基因组学的研究有没有相关的要求
一定要多少病人的样本才可以接受，或者用我们手上这三种细胞做就可以有足够的代表

可以钻很多空子。我眼里的translational其实可以囊括basic research以外的所有研
究，比如clinical research/biostat/药物/engineering，甚至包括我自己这种用病人
样本但还是基础手段做disease研究的。总之最后目的还是治病救人；要translational
肯定离不开basic science；但一味basic最后也就很容易陷入拼figure，纠结detail的
泥潭。
但我要说，从不同角度看同一个主题，还真是不一样。
比如neuroscience vs neurology，过去刚入行的时候觉得这俩应该肯定有很多
overlapping吧，但XX-ology就真的是想方设法，动用各种手段来了解disease本身，一
个有影响力的MD老板，手上有样本有资源，就可以招各路神仙，有做genetics的，做
bioinformaitcs/测序的，做RNA的，做protein structure的，做老鼠的，做signaling

么高的
比例，中国是长官意志，美国是利益集团，说到底是社会 对这些基础研究有多少需求
度，社会愿意付多少钱，而不是基础研究队伍的声音有多大。 二五，社会负担得起的
钱是有定数的，如果不做总量控制的队伍数量统计，不负责任的 增大PhD 数量，供求
关系失衡还会更严重，这个失衡结果包含千老劳力继续贬值，和pi 的申请书贬值。
三，biomedical PhD除学界的工作外，另一个主要出路是药企研发，实际上，这些年药
企研发的队伍也在缩编。

第一不要太迷恋TECHNICAL的东西。从自己和周围一些朋友的例子，我发现很多中国学
生对TECHNICAL的东西特别感兴趣。什么新的东西都想学，不管究竟对自己的RESEARCH
有没有帮助。所以很多中国学生的通病是，前两年上基础课的时候都很优秀，经常是全
A。但到了三四年级时，进入RESEARCH很慢。很多人的毕业论文都是匆忙上阵，甚至迟
迟不能毕业。当然我并不是说TECHNICAL的东西不重要。博士课前两年是积累一些
GENERAL TECHNICAL SKILLS很重要。剩下的时间主要集中在开始RESEARCH和学习与自己
RESEARCH相关的TECHNICAL SKILLS。
第二要在三年级就开始选定一到两个具体的TOPIC。我觉得从什么报纸，杂志或网站上
找灵感都是瞎掰。如果自己不是JOHN NASH那样的奇才，老老实实从文献里找灵感。看
看自己的导师在作什么，看看自己领域的大牛(如自己领域TOP JOURNAL的EDITOR)在作
什么。作研究都是大牛挖坑，小牛灌水。对于JUNIOR RESEARCHERS，我感觉最有效的研

比如Columbia 和 Princeton, 请问 Operation Research 专业 （有时候会被叫做
Industrial Engineeering, 或者 Systems Engineering) 和 Financial Engineering
学的东西区别大不大？ 我看到不少人都说 Systems Engineering 和 Operation
Research 以及 Industrial Engineering 很接近，是不是真的？
下面几个学校是我查到的有这些专业的，哪一个会更好一些？
Columbia - Operation Research (MS)

U Penn - Systems Engineering (MSE)

完全个人观点，不见得试用于所有人。
第一不要太迷恋TECHNICAL的东西。从自己和周围一些朋友的例子，我发现很多中国学
生对TECHNICAL的东西特别感兴趣。什么新的东西都想学，不管究竟对自己的RESEARCH
有没有帮助。所以很多中国学生的通病是，前两年上基础课的时候都很优秀，经常是全
A。但到了三四年级时，进入RESEARCH很慢。很多人的毕业论文都是匆忙上阵，甚至迟
迟不能毕业。当然我并不是说TECHNICAL的东西不重要。博士课前两年是积累一些
GENERAL TECHNICAL SKILLS很重要。剩下的时间主要集中在开始RESEARCH和学习与自己
RESEARCH相关的TECHNICAL SKILLS。
第二要在三年级就开始选定一到两个具体的TOPIC。我觉得从什么报纸，杂志或网站上
找灵感都是瞎掰。如果自己不是JOHN N |
