amazing paper in JBC and crappy ir-reproducible paper in NCS (hell, I know a
lab's NCS papers are mostly unreliable at best and can only be reproduced
by the 1st author, muhaha). If a school can not distinguish what research
is good and the likelihood of the subject getting funded or not, the school
got more problem than just hiring people. |

胡编瞎说），有些可能值得我们去深究一下。
比方说中医对食物分类成热凉什么的。这个目前挺难用现在的科学来解释的，如果是方
舟子这种机械科学论的人来看了，肯定就说，食物吃进肚子里都分解成糖分子，脂肪分
子以及氨基酸分子才吸收的，怎么可能有区别呢，一定是胡说八道！
但是那些说法偏偏还就挺reproducible的，比方说一般人在大夏天吃了个什么上火的东
西，真的就容易流鼻血的。而我觉得对于我们这些研究者来说，凡是可以reproducible
的却不能被当前理论解释的现象都应该引起我们的好奇心。因为里面可能潜伏有我们
当前的理论没有覆盖到的东西。当然，我觉得我们应该在对于中医里面描述的现象留心
理会，而不是盲目相信或者照搬中医里面的“理论”。
再发散一下，上面有人说“人中黄”不是大粪（而是用大粪泡过的甘草）所以和菌群平
衡无关。我觉得他这个结论可能下得有点仓促了。
网上说《本草备要》里面对“人中黄”的疗效的描述是这样的：

, it is probably useless and not reliable enough to be translated. I have
known people who cannot reproduce their own lab results and they still
publish in high impact journal. How do I know? For one case, the graduate
student who is the first author (it is a NCS paper) told me in person, he/
she just too tired about current state of science and just want to get a
degree from top 3 institution and leave. |

现在用的都是100和300系列
优点是stability, sensitivity,reproducibility
官方的baseline stability是0.0003 abs/hr,我实测到新的机器可以到0.0001abs/hr，
多次重复一致
缺点是维修比较贵，由于典型的double beam设计，旧仪器chopper元件的故障率很高，
基本上两三年要换一次，当然也是因为我们用的assay比较intense，经常7X20的用
一直很想买他家的50/60系列，但是老板不批钱
50/60系列的优点是速度和方便
像楼上讲的Agilent一样，可以开室测试。因为使用功率非常高的Xenon lamp，而不是
普通的UV/vis lamp，所以室内光源对测试基本没影响。而且由于Xenon lamp直接覆盖
190-1200nm，没有通常所见的uv/vis光源切换造成的spike。这个系列使用dual beam设
计，没有chopper元件，所以故障率比较低。缺点是理论上来讲没有double beam的

great lens as opposed to the 14-42 junk that is in most bundles. The camera
takes amazing video. In low light it is practically night vision
particularly when paired with the 20mm pancake. The cheapest I had seen it
before is $1000 at Samy's but that was only BM for those in Cali and you had
to pay tax.

人大坠楼教授曹廷炳:化学界天空中划过的一颗流星

人民网北京3月22日电 （记者 史雅乔）16日，人大化学系主任曹廷炳从高楼坠下
身亡。据悉，曹廷炳北大博士毕业后，进入哈佛化学系进行博士后研究工作，之后被人
大聘请。同时，他还获得教育部新世纪优秀人才计划支持。在此将其曾经的成就列举一
二，希望以此来表达对逝者的悼念。
据了解，曹廷炳在其专业领域做出了很大的努力，并取得相当显赫的成绩。其研究
领域主要在高分子材料的制备、组装及其功能化； 非传统微纳米图案化技术的开发及
其在生物、化学传感及能源器件上的应用；基于驻极体（Electrets）材料的超分子组
装。他的科研项目主要有主持国家自然科学基金面上项目“在驻极体上构筑有序分子组
装体系”以及“非传统方法制备超精细纳米结构及其应用”，并参与国家自然科学基金
重点项目“基于超精细结构的集成微流芯片检测新方法”，主持教育部新世纪优秀人才

首先，生命未必非要以碳水化合物的形式存在，任何可以reproduce的负熵消耗体都是
生命，所以生命可以以很多人类可以想象或者无法想像的形式存在，因此完全可以存在
于很多人类认为环境极端严苛的星体上。
其次，由简单生命体演化出智慧生命是小概率事件。
再次，智慧生命未必热衷于建造巨型工程。
再再次，以人类无法想像的形式存在的智慧生物制造的巨型工程人类依然未必能够想象。 |
