我自己在我postdoc老板组开创一个side project, 它也能解决老板 main project 中
的some issues. 老板一直不太support, 但也没有反对, 因为我同时也在做他要我做的
project. 几年下来，我figure out the whole workflow from sample preparation
to data analysis. 我在data analysis 时主要based upon XXa.
两年前, 另一个postdoc B加入我们组，开始接管我用来collect data的仪器. 我把我
以前的data（including XXa and XXb)）给他看了,他拿过去做了一个漂亮的图，把我

果又能证实比较靠谱，就算一新的算法。比如random forest，道理很简单，就是随机
取样，独立建模，然后majority vote，然后很多地方用着效果还不错，就流行开来。
你说这跟数学物理那种严密的推理方法比，也不见得有多理论。 |

发帖数: 4671 | 31 看 panel。我 reuse 了十几个 proposals 了，一直没问题，直到去年有两个
proposals 在两个不同的 panels 被不止一个 reviewers 给骂了个狗血喷头，说，写
得万金油，木有紧扣 proposal，直接说unacceptable。所以年初 resubmit 的时候花
了不少功夫量体裁衣写了一下，越写越汗颜，发现其实可以写得具体的地方很多啊。决
定以后也要花几个小时把这几个文件的细节和 proposal 的内容好好磨合一下 -- 当然
了，结构基本上大同小异。
比如说，release data 时都包括对内对外，分期分级，metadata标准，等等。但是针
对具体 proposal 还是值得列出每一类数据的具体sharing平台，每一级的具体定义，
每一期的内容以及背后的rationale，采用的metadata 和 ontology 规范是哪些，为什
么，可能出现的问题以及alternative plan 等等。可能大部分情况下没人看，但心里

的迫切性。
越重要的东西 （introduction/rationale, Preliminary data）越要放得往前面一些
。创新性的方法可以当作Preliminary data来写，非创新性的方法一般不需要解释太多。 |

现在的版本没有详细method了，只是简单带过。
在写AIM时引用了最近别人paper里的结论支持我的rationale，导致每个aim篇幅都有点
长，我的感觉是，既然我propose了去做关于某个protein或pathway的功能，那么近期
与之密切相关的paper应该都要提到，否则显得自己对文献不够熟，或者comittee里同
领域的人可以用之来argue。请问这样对不对？ |

我把RS改到只有两页，去掉了大多数detail只留下aim和相应的proposed experiment,
给身边一个小老板看了看，人说太抽象，虽然aim是很清楚了 但是看不明白为什么要
propose那些实验，特别是对于非本领域的人，与其这样说不清楚还不如不说，省下空
间把其中几件说明白就行。只好把那些detail rationale加回去。

我的理解是对于1，2，3， 你每写一个具体的specific aim 的时候都必须单独提出来
。所以你在那个12页的正文里其实是每个大段落都必须有Premise, Rigorous, and
other considerations这三个小段落。我觉得Premise其实就是以前的那个Rationale的
等价品, 而Rigorous, and other considerations差不多就是以前的那个pitfall and
alternative resolution 的代替品。这个是我的理解，不知道对不对。希望参加了今
年的review panel 的人来说说。 |

。不要慌，什么问题考虑清楚在回答，有语法错误也不用在意。一慌，逻辑就没了，说

来的比你工资高，主要因为你当年没negotiate。这些主要是自己的失误，所以没用。
3，The threat. 如果不答应你，你拿什么要挟/惩罚对方？听着很刺耳，但这是很关键
的一点。比如新人接offer时，如果对方条件不合适，你就不来了。（你的情况，如果
学校不答应，你辞职吗？所以你不具备）。又比如拿到外部的offer后，反过来要挟学
校，如果不给涨工资你就跳走了。这条你又没有。（这条和第二条共同决定了你的
bargaining power）
综上所述，你这不是negotiation。应该叫petition。就是求求领导帮你涨工资，人家
不答应，你也没办法。所以结果多半是不答应啦。 |

here's my take: at a minimum, you and ur lg need to be clear on three things
1) what is your lg's motive for start up? some ppl do it for the love of
technology, some do it for the money, some do it for the prestige... it
seems to me "keeping up with the jones" was part of the motive - if that's
the case, your lg may never be happy as there will always be ppl who made it
