Freestyle
The main propulsive force of the freestyle stroke is the arm cycle. The legs
add only 10% of total speed through the water, depending on whether you use
a 2-, 4-, 6-, or 8-beat kick. The main function of the legs is to help keep
the body balanced and efficient to allow the arms to do their work and keep
the body moving when the arm cycle is at its weakest point. The following
flow chart briefly illustrates the arm cycle:

a*********r 发帖数: 139 | 44 The main propulsion in freestyle comes from your arms. That's why some
people call freestyle the front quandrant stroke. The legs are important too
in that they balance your body to maintain a streamline position. In 50,
100 and possible 200, elite swimmers kick really fast, because they try to
use all the power they have.
For us, I think kicking that fast will lead to cramp quickly.
A good way to practice the floating in freestyle is to do a face-down, arm-
lead floating with light flutter kick |

Smooth surfaces (shaved skin) reduce the frictional drag component that
would allow swimmers to improve their times. Shaving is also a very

swimmers actually have lower blood lactate levels, increased stroke lengths
