年秋季(fall semester)肯定办不下来。说只能办理h4.请问有没有什么办法可以尽快办
理h1b？如果最坏的情况h1b办不下来，如何可以保住这个adjunct professor 职位？多

我目前有4个offer.
一个harvard postdoc, 一个yale postdoc.
一个u of michigan 的 research assistant professor
一个oregon state university 的tenure track assistant professor.
现在不想去oregon state 了，因为那个系里面真没什么人。我这点水平去
哪里也不会有什么发展。
所以现在考虑是u of michigan的 research assistant professor
还是harvard postdoc |

两个类似例子, 一个跳之前已经拿到CAREER, 然后接受了个Associate Professor(
without tenure)职位,但一年以后拿到tenure; 另一个接受的是assistant professor,
和你类似的担心, 跳过去之后就拿到CAREER。 |

Lecturer级别的，根本不是什么教授。中国基本上跟欧洲差不多。所以Assistant
Professor说白了不是教授，就是美国大学为了满足知识分子的虚荣心才杜撰出这么一
个名称，听着不错，还让广大知识分子为了这个头衔努力工作，何乐而不为呢？ |

发帖数: 394 | 12 PI 一般针对课题而言。比如在这边申请NIH， NSF grant,粗略讲，主要申请人就是PI
。以前single PI 的grant 比较多，现在又可以有multiple PI 的申请方式。或Co-PI
。反正具体规定看哪个基金会。不止限于生物，只要申请课题，课题负责人就算PI（也
许不全面）。tenure-track and tenured 的 professor (Assistant, Associate and
Full Professor)都可以做PI。有些基金，research tract的 professor也可以做PI.就
是薄厚的NIH， NSF fellowship， 在申请表上，主要申请人也叫PI。当然大家不这么
叫。主要觉得postdoc fellowship grant 还算training grant. 并不雇别人。
其实PI和你在学校的rank 没有之间联系。当然，tenure-track 可以申请的多一些。
可能有人把实验室的老板也叫PI，那也是因为老板是实验的课题申请人。
我的浅见而已。有纰漏，请指正。 |

associate professor都需要和正职教员合作才能做PI.但如果是adjunct full
professor，就可以自己独立做PI |

话多给一个月的工资。于是有个senior professor去年夏天就把这门课develop成了
online course （他在来我们学校前在其他学校教过这门课）。但这两年我都是fall &
spring semester在课堂里教，他夏天教online的，也相安无事。结果，刚才系主任问
我今年fall semester能不能教另外一门全新的课，因为这个senior professor想秋季
也教这门课的online version （也就是想多拿一个月工资），但学生数量有限，不可
能同时开online 和on ground的，所以系里可能就cancel我这门on ground的。
我当然不想答应教新课。因为我明年要评tenure，所以今年的teaching evaluation很
重要。以往我这门课的evaluation都是很不错的，开一门新课需要花大量时间备课不说
，还不知道学生到时候的evaluation怎么样。但是我不答应的话，又怕得罪这个senior

学校很一般，地方却很好，自己比较开心，家人也很高兴。心里盘算趁现在CV还好看，
要不要出去找个位子，主要想找个专业排名学校档次更高点的。
今年新出了一些不错的学校的位子，却都是assistant professor position。很纠结不
知道要不要申。导师不建议，认为马上要tenure了去申assistant professor是自降身
价。
我想可不可以先申，拿到位子了再去negotiate associate professor position。导师
认为很难，因为position对应的budget 预算是做好的。
