While the official decisions for Team USA won’t be made until Monday, the
12-man team is almost certain after a flurry of Team USA news the past
couple of days.
USA Basketball Managing Director Jerry Colangelo confirmed on Thursday night
that both Detroit guard Chauncey Billups and Phoenix forward Amare
Stoudamire have withdrawn themselves for consideration for the Olympics.

19-0 is going to be against all the odds, not just against the teams. It
will be a miracle if it happens. That is why I used the phrase “More
probable than not", as we all know it was redefined by the infamous Well's
report to be "unlikely":-)
It is good to be 19-0 but it is very unlikely. The history tells. I would
rather they just get a ring. To be in the odds' favor, they should lose a
few regular games:-)

According to New York Times technology columnist David Pogue, Apple still
believes in desktop Macs, including both the iMac and the Mac Pro.
The Mac Pro in particular has raised the ire of some Apple fans because it
has been several years since the last update, and the update today was
extremely minor.
Pogue writes:
Many Apple observers also wonder if Apple thinks that desktop computers are

There is an interval of length L. We now fit k line segments, each of which

uniformly distributed in the interval subject to the constraint that it is
contained in the interval, and the location distribution of one line segment
is independent of any other line segments. Assuming L > kT, what is the

Hi,
I have a probability question as follows:
x1, x2, ... ,xn are n indepedent random variables. if y1 is the largest value
of x1 to xn, y2 is the second largest vaule of x1 to xn, ..., yn is the
minimum value of x1 to xn. Obviously, y1, y2, ..., yn are n random vaibles as
well. The question is:
Are y1, y2, ..., yn indepedent to each other? How to prove it?

If Xn converges to X in probability, i.e.,
for any e>0, lim P( |Xn - X| < e ) = 1,
can we let e -> 0, and conclude that lim P( Xn = X ) = 1 ?

来自主题: Mathematics版 - about convergence in probability
Thank you. Another question is that if Xn converges to X almost surely, then
lim P(Xn=X)=1. Is it correct? My understanding of convergence almost surely is
that after finite many terms, Xn and X and the same except probably on a set
of measure 0. Is that correct?
I am trying to understand the various modes of convergence, and my questions
may be pretty naive. But it clarifies some of my doubts, and your helps are so
much appreciated.

Let {u_n} and u be probability measures on R^N, and suppose the characteristic
function of u_n , \int_{R^N} {exp(i ) u_n(dx)} , converges to that of u
, \int_{R^N} {exp(i ) u(dx)} , as n goes to infinity, for all t in R^N.
Show that \int_{R^N} {exp(i ) u_n(dx)} converges to \int_{R^N} {exp(i
) u(dx)} uniformly on compacts.
Is this a standard problem? Any hint? Thanks a lot!

大致是这样的
现在有A,B,C三个问题,
已证(别人证得)问题B是C的spacial case,或者说C是B的推广,
现在我要做得是,show A is a spacial case of C,
show a probability space is a Banach space
