Basically 拧 for short balls.
For both penholder and shakehand, backhand can do 拧, but forehand, 拧 is
difficult, right ? |

c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 2 Saw him play in Hua Yun Hui before, very very powerful loops, never
thought i could beat him from SF city.
First time played him, i warmed up one match, if i won, it would be
next 2, i was behind all the way to the end, but came back to win 13:11
Which gave me a lot of confidence, so i won 2nd game, from 3rd, 4th,
i did not stick on my 3-4 different types of serves he had most troubles
with, he came back to 2:2.
5th game, he led all the way to 10:8, i won 2 points with my own 2 serves,

than penRBP's, but less footwork...
his serves are very very spinny. |

serves?
it has such a small margin: i either return under the net or out
of the table... |

|
c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 17 yes, that's the way i won.. but too passive against his style.
i can return with my LP 70-80%, but just 30% with smooth side, i flipped
about
once a game to win a point for serve return. |

c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 18 the first time i played Terry Tam was at one of the 4 star Berkeley Open
U2375, i beat a guy over 2100 from TX in group RR, led Terry 2:1, asked
Patrick Wu to coach me, but he declined since he said he knew Terry too,
at that time, Terry was a 2100+ shakehand.
I lost 2:3, afterwards, Patrick told me if i had won, my rating would have
jumped over 2100.
So i was just one game away from 2100. |

Stanley stopped by the club after our 1st match, he couldn't believe i beat
tony, said if we played again, most likely Tony would win.
After the 2nd match, he said tony should not loop again after i blocked his
strong initial loop using LP, instead he should have just pushed back, since
he looped under the net...
thanks for sharing your experience, Barry said he played him once and lost
to him 2:3 too. |

penholders should do to beat the consistent shake-hand guys ? Any
suggestions ? |

c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 21 i think surefire is a good attacker, whereas ypeng has good defense, you
don't have much defensive skills.
when u play surefire, u need to initiate attack more, but he is a penholder,
it is relatively easier for him to start attack. |

c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 29 usually guys who have better serves would have better serve return.
just like average to say: penholder has better serves and serve returns...
also pips can be used for better serve return. |

U*******1 发帖数: 1565 | 31 QQMJ, the penholder at that time ?? |
|
U*******1 发帖数: 1565 | 32 In the first game, you gave too many forehand balls to him so that he made a
lot easy loops in hs forehand.
In the second game, you added more control in returning the balls, then he
made a lot of mistakes. Also your serve quality is better than the first
game.
For our penholders, if we do not make him loop easier, he will make mistakes
or we loop first. |

U*******1 发帖数: 1565 | 33 Only penholders can do good on that. Shakehand is difficult. |

Sure, 2000 level player G F/S S are doing that, LP RBP is not a loop,
instead, it is no spin punch.
Actually one side LP penholders in bay area, most of them don't twiddle.
it takes talent to twiddle fast enough to take it advantage.
Usually it is easier to twiddle for serve/serve return just like
ZJQ is doing, but a lot more difficult to twiddle during a rally.
长胶发球有优势吗?
LP can't generate much spin, so it can ONLY be used as a variation,

even though i had competed almost in my whole life in sports, i still
shared the same experience:
When you dare to win, but not afraid of lose, u play the best!
but when you have the idea of wanting to win, you start to lose.
in the team final against Jiaoda, 5 singles in a row: my opponent is
2100+ TSP Spectol penhold hitter, at first: my goal was not losing

c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 38 his backhand from middle distance counter attack has improved a lot,
which surprised me when i smashed to his backhand...
now, he plays more like a mid distance 2 wing looper...
not that common as a penhold. |
|
c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 39 that is a long time ago, he has 3 world cup titles, 1 world
champion title.
even if he just wins 2nd again in London, he is still considered
one of the most famous players in Chinese TT history since he
started a total new era of penhold RPB. |

c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 40 i can have a try too... I thought a lot of penholders over 2000
have better serves than his, eg: Tony Tam, Jim Chai etc... |

c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 41
i never consider myself is a LP player, for me, i am more like
a single sided penholder attacker.
LP is a defensive oriented rubber, but i am a offensive minded player.
Well, why i add one side LP? one reason is for serve return, another
reason is i can NOT master RPB skill well enough to my play level,
so why leave one side none? |
|
c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 42 it all depends on which choice is better for you, average to say: there
are more penhold who play LP on backhand over 1800 than those play PRB
over 1800. |

c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 43
this is so true, if a kid is learning penhold, i would highly recommend
PRB, for adults, i would recommend using pips on backhand 90%. |
|
c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 44 some points from my own experience and observations:
1. under certain level like U3600, yes, 2 1800 players should play best.
2. But style matching is more important: usually one stable, one aggressive
is the best matchup
3. Usually attacker plays better than defender in doubles.
4. guys who have solid attack skills, but less footwork in singles, usually
play doubles higher level than their singles.
5. Serve/serve return become a lot more important, so guys who have good
serve/serve return play ...

5654 | 46 wow, i think the opposite...
his game has good spin, but not enough speed/power s.t. he has to depend
on his consistency which needs stamina which he would not have after some
tough matches.
Also his serve/serve attack is just average among 1900s penholders.
His game is better against familiar guys, likek myself, not against
strangers. |
|
c****1 发帖数: 5654 | 47 his backhand count loop has a lot of spin, at least against my penholder
backhand, watch out.. that is his new weapon which he didn't have 2
years back. |
