倒是有很多别的便宜木头stain成mahogany的颜色。可能我见得太少了，没有想到
有mahogany再涂成深色这个选项。

上太离谱，Kawai dealer 实在多了，直接给6k加税加运费(ebony polish). 按照版上
的大概行情，我们offer了6K出门价，但是是Mahogany polish, dealer 考虑后电话接
受了，准备从了，明天下order。感觉不算好deal，价格也差不多吧，不要太冤猪头啊
，呵呵。 |

产这种木板。这个星期到处找相似木板替换，但是非常不理想。现在抱着最后一丝希望
来问问有没有剩余地板可以转让一下。如果还是不行就只能全换掉了。刚刚装了两年的
地板，又是当初千挑万选的，真是很舍不得

市场上把好几种木头都叫成Mahogany。但是一般认为Swietenia mahagoni小叶或者
Cuban Mahogany（好像已经绝迹了？），Swietenia macrophylla大叶桃花心木或者
Honduran Mahogany和Swietenia humilis墨西哥桃花心木这三个Swietenia（桃花心木
属）属的木头才是真正的Mahogany.
现在很多卖木头或者地板的把所有长得像的木头都叫mahogany，例如santo mahogany其
实是一种Myroxylon香脂木豆属的木头Myroxylon balsamum。另外african mahogany是
Khaya anthotheca,
那几个桃心花木属的东西都长得很慢santos mahogany会长的快些，所以便宜很多，但
是单看硬度密度机械性能等等的指标santo mahogany会比真正的桃心花木反而要好很多。 |

Mahogany has many types, some really good, usually from s. america. some
cheap from southeast asia. Good mahogany is good for carving as they won't
chip.
this is definitely cheap and soft mahogany, as it has to be wrapped by a
layer of veneer of other type of wood.
Mahogany solids is not solid Mahogany either. these are wasted mahogany
compressed together using glues. |

我朋友家就是5年前买的Thomasville mahogany，真的很漂亮，价格也公道。
等我们买的时候，Thomasville已近很少mahogany家具了，好不容易
挑出一套主卧的，式样算简洁大方，据说后面这个系列也要没有了。
其实从木质讲，mahogany和cherry, walnut一样都是硬木，主要因为mahogany
只在美国南部生长，而且成长周期慢，所以就卖得贵。
现在美国人生活品质更趋向于快餐文化，象Thomasville这样的也许为了提高
盈利margin，用木头越来越杂，以南亚木材为主，象什么rose wood，设计也大
不如以前，但是保持价格持平，玩的是价格好像不变，质量下降的把戏。

walnut, cherry比oak 好。基本上high end的家具都是mahogany, walnut或者Cherry做
的。rubberwood 品质和 oak 相似。

易裂。所以装饰性的花纹处会用Mahogany。
北美的高档家具用cherry和maple是最多的。maple里大概有5%是tiger maple。就像这
个网页里面的家具，木纹就像虎纹一样漂亮。

tiger maple的原木比普通maple贵一倍以上，所以tiger maple的家具一般是最贵的。
cherry的也很不错，而且随着年代，木色会慢慢变红。这种家具保养得当，用到时间越

Antique的家具也有walnut，walnut是好木头，但现在木匠不愿意用了，walnut在做之
前要先bleach，太耗时间。所以新家具一般没有。
costco，pottery barn，ashly之类的家具，都只是可以用而已。材料，做工都和真正

brazillian cherry/mahogany/teak也是很硬的木头，但是如果是american cherry之类
就比较普通。个人更喜欢cherry或者mahogany的纹理。

这个步骤就完全根据个人品位了，也是最可以个性化你手里莫辛的时候，深点浅点，黄
点黑点都随意。我选的是Minwax牌Red Mahogany 225这个颜色，原因有二，其一莫辛就
是把吊丝枪，折腾一遍还是浅色未免太对不起这几天的labor，上个Mahogany色最起码
第一眼看起来很唬人，去靶场秀给枪友，玛德最起码爷也是玩红木的啊！就这样将一把
100刀的吊丝枪价值提升到120刀。哈哈，搞笑一下。不过我个人确实喜欢Mahogany。
Youtube上推荐用海绵刷，或者好一点的synthetic油漆刷。我觉得没必要浪费那个钱。
Scott蓝色的shop towel效果就很好，只要不掉纸屑就好。刷的时候最好无风，无尘，
有车库的进车库，没车库的周末实验室，哥们儿我就在后院干，刷完了搬进地下室阴干。
Stain上两层还是三层随意，颜色达到想要的效果即可。层和层晾干2-3小时之后用0000
号steel wool轻刷finish，把刷stain时候树起来的毛刺干掉，同时也把表面的小屑
lint刷掉。
