错的。
至于天气，也没那么夸张，零下二三十度是少数。冬天也没有五个月啦，总体来说跟北
京或纽约的天气情况基本相似。我个人对气候不太在乎，如果你觉得这里跟武汉气候相
差较大不适应的话可以酌情考虑一下。
工作和生活的话，Iowa City作为一个college town比Iowa其他地方稍好，但是和大城
市比资源还是较少，也没有太多可玩可看的。如果你喜欢人文或自然景观，喜欢旅游，
就不要考虑这里了。开车三小时以内似乎没有什么有名的旅游胜地。
如果你习惯于国内大城市的生活，就不要来Iowa了。美国农村的人大部分生活闭塞，生

分享一些新的信息。或许对以后想去iowa结婚的同学们有帮助。毕竟广袤的中西部地区
只有这一个州是承认同性婚姻的。
具体步骤是，先找到这个网址，

这是我们选的离我们州最近的一个IOWA境内的county。上面有详细的结婚步骤信息。但
是还有些confuse的地方，打电话去问了。
总体步骤就是，人先过去，递交35元application fee，填申请marriage license的表
格，除了结婚双方外，还要一个witness，都要在这个表格上签字，然后notary签字。
。。然后，marriage license就发下来了。。开始3天的waiting period. 特殊情况这3
天可以waive掉，但是具体怎么才能waive要有个专门的judge才能决定，waive标准外人
是不详的。（另外，iowa waive的价格只要另加5块，但是据我研究过的boston那里waive要加好
几百，两三百的样子吧。。而且iowa不要健康证明，boston要。。。不过c |

假如要我选择的话，我想我会选择Rutgers.
这两个看起来是一个档次的学校，或许在你的专业上有一点区别。但是估计差别不太大
吧？这从给你的start-up上就看的出来。但是，反映在地理位置上，这两个学校有很本
质的区别。IOWA毕竟是中部的大农村，附近除了UI之外，好像看不到有什么其他很好的
大学，这在以后networking方面是挺不利的。毕竟想在本校或者本系里面找到一个良好
的合作者是非常不容易的。很多时候的合作者都来自外校。这种情况之下，Rutgers的
优势就挺明显。看楼主的描述“U Iowa的research更强”，感觉楼主是生物口的， :-)
。UI的research是挺好，但是很多reputation好像来自UI医学院里面的几个大牛级PI。
不知道其他PI的情况如何？不过，不管怎样，一个年轻的PI，99%的时间还是单打独斗。
除掉research之外，在生活品质方面，恐怕也是Rutgers要胜一筹。虽然IOWA生活成本
低。
总之，假如各种条件差别不是很大的情况之下，地理位置就显得尤其重要。当然，你要

发帖数: 1797 | 31 在中部生活过，除了上面提到的那些，让我离开中部地区的还有人文和旅游。嗯，本人
没在公司工作过，所以这些都是教职以及教职合作上的感受。
人文的话，比较Iowa和比如东部地区，Iowa那里相对保守（除了Iowa City）。那边的
欧洲移民保留的传统也比较多，工作环境感觉和国内有点像，一个是各种关系链，比如
谁谁秘书原来是哪个牛人老婆之类的，所以不要轻易得罪谁。另外一个是那里的人说话
比较客套，说什么都是好啊好啊，但是不一定是实话。这是相对东部地区来说的,东部
地区的老板可能有时候说话很直接，但多是实话。面试的时候感觉尤其清楚。
从旅游来说，中部地区的假期比较长，原因是周围没什么好玩的。Iowa最大的就是
state farm festival，比比谁家的猪最大这样子。除了这个就是一年一度的大学生橄
榄球赛了。到附近的大城市都是4小时以上的路程，当天来回几乎不可能。所以给放好
多假，鼓励职工出去逛逛，回来好心甘情愿的干活。虽然地方小，没什么travel，但是
说起family friendly，我觉得比不上东部中等大的城市，东部城市附近好玩的地方多
多了。

大豆是美对中出口第一大产品，同时 IOWA 的生猪，玉米对华出口也大。这是IOWA 失
业率低的一个主要原因。反之，中国对美国农业依赖也越来越大，此次访问 IOWA 有一
定战略意义。
政治上，给红脖亲民形象，反击下资本家及其代理人。

iowa 的 w2， 400块。全年有iowa的一些利息，百来块。
现在在 弄first year choice。请问下，这样还要填iowa的税么？ 之前好像看到F1的
学生，不管拿多少钱都要保税。现在找找不到了，直找到一个1000块以下的不用保税。

根据老赫和JWE打探来的消息，3012法案的存在对排期的推进有很大的影响。现在是我
们最后的努力关头，也是最后的机会。3012一旦被拖过二月份，随着大选活动在三月的
白热化，极大的可能3012会失败，然后排期大倒退不可避免。
即使交了485的，按照现在绿卡的进度，也不知道猴年马月才能批，只等祈祷每年剩余
名额多一点这种没法控制的事情。但是2010以来经济的复苏也会慢慢反应到剩余名额里
面，剩余名额不可能一直像经济危机的时候这么多。

昨天我用英文申请的，版上有人说必须得中文书写，那我就重新来一遍。
本人2000年就来到Iowa，现在居住在Iowa州，这几年还要继续住在这边。
我其实一直关注着这个版，不过一直都是潜水或者是用另外一个帐号，
直到最近看到这个版没人管理的状况才想当版主。我的另外一个帐号
曾经在MITBBS上当过BM和BF职务，有版务管理的经验。
我查了一下现任版主oolongTea的任职情况，除了2007年1月2日前后出现冒了
一下头之外，再上次出现是2005年8月29日（Iowa版3852文），期间1年零4个
月现任版主oolongTea都不在版上发言。oolongTea版主自己声称：

我也是受人之托，要了解一些情况，对东北大学实在不了解，有没有在那里学习工作的
指点一下这些问题。
1、IOWA州立大学哪些专业是强项？哪些专业好找工作（这个问题回不回答无所谓，有能人
一点指点）？
2、IOWA州立大学附近环境如何，住在学校附近或学校的宿舍安全不安全，校风如何？
3、IOWA州立大学附近消费水平如何？生活条件怎么样？
4、是否容易在学校或是学校所在地找到地方打工？
我不知道这些问题是不是好回答，无论如何请大家给些意见建议，大家也明白国内的人
都想把孩子送出
来读书，又有太多的担心。
