设计 hypothesis for statistical test。
另外，alternative hypotheses 早就在生物学中广泛应用了。而且作为方法论，
alternative hypotheses 并不限于生物学，别的学科一样适用。以前就推荐过 Platt

至于 data-driven -- 没有 hypotheses，往哪里 driven？
所以貌似 lz 没有搞清楚 data 和 knowledge 的区别，应该不是从事 data mining /
bioinformatics 这些天天跟海量数据打交道的方向的。那又奢谈什么 data-driven？
比如说，我现在手头就有 19 万组数据，每组几个 MB。每种数据对应三类刺激，多个
时间点，十几种细胞，七八个不同的 control，一堆的外部 annotation databases。
没有几个 hypotheses，都不知道该先处理哪些，做哪些分析，control 和
normalization 都用什么策略，该怎么做 fast prototyping。
所以呢，凭想象说什么 data-driven，不过空谈而已。叶公好龙，等真见了龙就明白了
。等到真正拿到几个硬盘的数据要你一个月出报告，就知道 hypothesis driven 的重
要性了。 |

但你在用词上要尽量避开“硬性的”对与错的论述。在当时的历史条件下，别人做出那
个假设肯定也是有他们的道理的，是不是？科学要发展，总要不断提出hypotheses来解
释暂时还不能直接证明的东西。这些hypotheses，将来有些证明是对的，有些证明是不
对的，这并不就是说提出错误假设的人白干了。他们的工作也是很重要的。要是畏惧被
证伪，谁都不敢说话了，这怎么前进哪？
所以不要太低估了被你证伪的那些人的业绩，道德，以及心理承受能力。他们的paper
的价值未必比你的低。这么一想，你就不会觉得愧对他们了，该怎么present 就怎么

A scientific theory is a group of related hypotheses about a category of
phenomena, which has been well surpassed by objective observations and
experimental data. and evolution is a megatheory which is a large system of
theories.
So, when someone attacks evolution as not being able to be falsified, he
/she is taking the wrong level of

我要替中国辩护，并不是因为我是一个中国人，而是因为我知道中国就和这世界上绝大
数的国家一样，虽然有很多丑陋的现象，但是他们是受害者。就
象这个犯罪集团里很多的人一样，他们来自各种种族，他们可能充当了工具，但他们不

我的hypotheses：
1)柴静的宣传片是中共宣传的一部分
2)柴静宣传片目前被“封杀”是因为宣传够了，过犹不及，中共决定收山。
验证：
1)一年之内，看是否河北山西等地的雾霾会大幅度得到治理。我的预测是：肯定会。事
实上，现在官方必然已经成竹在胸、摩拳擦掌，才会抛出柴静的片子舆论先行。
2)一年之内，看柴静是否会因为这么大影响的“私人”作品被特殊关照(比照艾滋村高
耀洁、四川地震豆腐渣教学楼艾未未等人的待遇)。我的预测是：不会。
以中共目前的体制，治理任何东西都不难，只需要1)不计成本，2)转嫁成本、渺视公平
，把苦难让一小部分人吞下即可。
这次倒霉的将是“非法”的民间钢铁企业。以前遇到类似情况，倒霉的是饿死的农民、
下岗的国企工人、死绝的艾滋村民、地震压扁的学生。。。走这样的定式，中共官方是
职业高段，轻车熟路。而旁观者很可能合掌欢喜，因为他们眼睛看到自己得利了(空气
清洁了)，因为反正艾滋村死的人他不认识、因为四川地震孩子死了还能再生、因为河
北民间企业跟他们没有直接经济往来。。。人性就是这样！ |

The ratio between the stable isotopes of carbon (12C/13C) seems to indicate

，现在闲下心来好好说说这个话题。既然有网友抛砖引玉了，缄口不言也实在不够尊重
。另外版主塞了不少包子,也不能吃白食.
先说说常用的描述数据的几个概念.
1. random variation -- variability有两大类,一类是知道来源的,还有一类是
unexplained. 比如一部分variability是由treatment effect引起的,而剩下的大部分
variability却不知道缘故. 后者经常被归入random variation.
2. Mean -- 最常见的当然是arithmetic mean, 特殊情况下也会用geometric及
harmonic mean. 任何数据组都能计算mean, 但不是所有时候用mean都合适. 当碰到
extreme data values的时候(经常因为技术条件所限边缘值不太容易被精确测量),
median就会有很大的优越性, 因为median可以大幅降低个别extreme value的影响.

Bacon 首先比较完善地在哲学上提出来并推广的，所以他和伽利略被并称为现代科学之
父。波普的主要贡献是进一步分析 falsifiablity。
另外说一下 scientific experiment 和 general data collection 的区别，那就是：
是否是 hypothesis driven 的。我想知道自己多重，算 data collection；想知道全
系的每个人多重，也算 data collection；想知道 BMI 和血脂是否有 correlation，
于是去测全系所有人的体重身高和血脂，就算是 scientific experiment 了；测了全
系所有人的一堆指标，想筛选一下看哪些指标跟血脂有关，依然是 scientific
experiment，而不是简单的 data-driven research，因为已经在试图证伪一系列的
