If you use regular paver, you can do it on loose sand and then broom sand
into the spaces between pavers. Sometime people use cement instead, which
sound to be better but actually worse than sand. As cement will become solid
and when the ground moves, they will break.
If you want to do a brick and mortar patio, then you need to pour a 4"
concrete pad and then lay the brick and mortar on the pad. Otherwise, as
winter comes, the ground will heave and the brick and mortar will crack. Y |

The gravel base will help your concrete foundation stay away from water and
winter heaving. But you still need to properly grade the patio so that the
rain water will run away: either to the center and catch it in a catch basin
connected to perforated drainage pipe - or slightly slope it to somewhere

Drainage pipe need to be buried in gravel and wrapped with fiberglass cloth

heave的问题。
而slab下管线出问题绝非像有人说的，属于“常规维护”。slab不光是水泥，还有钢筋
。这些结构就不是suppose你三天两头凿开的。开销只是一方面，还破坏地基。所以，
房子在设计的时候，就是按照slab下管线故障属于极小概率事件的。
没有地下室的房子，空调，热水器可以放在阁楼。 |

可以不接，实际上最好就是不接。
不少deck的书上都是把deck接到房子上，但是我觉得那样弊大于利（除非是那种比较高
的deck）。一个是有可能把水引到房子上或存水。另一个是deck和房子的ground
movement一般不同步（frost heave vs settlement）。这个连接把不同步的东西绑到
一起，严重时有可能会break something。 |

有地下室的地区，通常都是Frost line很深的地方。Footer必须在Frost line下，不然
frost heave会把房子拱起来的。
Walk-out露出来那一半，下面还得有footer伸到Frost line下。Bulk-head是不能简单
刨一边出来就改成walk-out的，必须在下面加footer，所以这钱没人愿出。 |

4尺深的土都冻上，体积增大是很明显的，就把slab推上来，化雪时再落下去，要不了
几年就不均匀沉降了
所以你在你neighborhood是看不到slab的，对不对？房子都是坐在掘地四尺的basement
，deck都是坐在掘地四尺浇的水泥柱上。
Shed一般不会花这么多钱在地基上，一般就是挖4"土下去，填上stone base，夯实。然
后cinder block（或者继续堆stone base）垫高几寸，垫高是为了防止接触水土。
Cinder block一定不能用空心砖，因为水泥砖很可能被冻裂，实心砖裂了关系不大，空
心的就榻了。用dek block(自己google一下）这种形状的，还可以再上面加4x4木桩，
进一步垫高。如果你建在坡上，用这种block就很方便。另外就是你确认地面都是
compacted soil，那么取掉第一步stone base，不扰动原生土也是很不错的，那就更要
靠木桩来取平了。

相反，大规模消减财政支出，比如大规模的解雇老师和邮递员，
会直接减少众多低收入人口的消费能力，
导致生意进一步萎缩，失业人群进一步增加的恶性循环。
所以眼睛紧盯着政府员工，或者其它中低等收入人群，
认为他们不配现有待遇，是很短视和要命的。
罗斯福为了对抗大萧条，雇一大帮人干更低效的活都做过，
为得就是止住恶性循环，维护社会安定。
毕竟社会动荡甚至发生中国那样的革命，
以至彻底重新分配，也是达到重新平衡的方式。
