This is not true. US personal incomes have grown about 80% in real-term from
1970 to 2008. I don't know where the author got his/her data from. It is
hardly believable and against commcon sense that average american are
earning 40% less than 35 years ago counting inflation and the quality of
live has degraded 40% since then.
It is ok to dig into statistics, make adjustment, and find some evidence to
support one's point. It is not ok to mislead people with hugely biase |

I dont think you will have 401K, 403, etc.., but if you do, u can put (pre-
tax)$16500 USD in each year.
If you have extra money, you can put (after tax)$5000 into your Roth IRA.
If you still have extra money on hand, you can think about (after tax)$10000
i-Bond or other US goverment bonds, these bonds dont have a great return
rate but they are usually tax-free on earning that means if it's a 4% return
, without the tax, it could mean something close to 6% |

For big ones, they all have match policy. If you do not contribute to your
401K, then you do not get the match. This is not "extra bonus", they are
part of your salary calculated already in the business cost of the company.

If your answer is yes, then sure, government gives you tax break, it has the
right to ask for something in return. But, instead of taking "yes" as the
answer for granted, you should check US history on when and how income tax
gets into the law. Then you may want to learn how Fed gets the right to
print money. It is a whole journey to learn about the fundamentals of
liberty and freedom :-)
