Feb 13 (Reuters) - The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said on Friday there
was no earthquake in western Russia after earlier reporting on its website a
magnitude 6.8 near the border with Belarus.
USGS Geophysicist Paul Caruso said the agency's sensors mislocated an

可能发生灾难性强震，希望能在强震来袭前更妥善地做好准备工作，没想到地震在会议
一周后就到来。
报道称，与会专家知道自己是和时间赛跑，但不知道让人忧心的情况何时会来。他们希
望大地震再度来袭时，贫穷、拥挤、过度开发、房舍粗制滥造的加德满都能有更妥善的
准备。
英国剑桥大学地质学系主任、地震学家杰克森(James Jackson)说：“就像某种梦魇，
迟早会发生。”“实际上和地质上而言，发生的事情完全在预料之中。”
但杰克森没料到大地震会来得这么快。25日规模7.8的强震侵袭加德满都，至今造成近
2000人丧命，灾损更是难以估算。
杰克森说：“地震的地区我先前去过，我到那里时，就想说这里会有麻烦。”
各界早就担心加德满都会发生地震，不只因为此地地处断层，更因为此地的人为状况，
让情况雪上加霜。
地震造成的灾害，会因建筑状况与人口的不同而有差异，美国地质调查所(U.S.
Geological Survey)先前早有估算。
