当地时间2月27日凌晨袭击了智利沿海的8.8级地震，是一个多世纪以来全世界最大的地
震之一。
来自美国地质调查局(U.S. Geological Survey)的数据显示，这次地震和1906年袭击厄
瓜多尔和波利维亚的8.8级地震并列第五，自1900年以来，只有四场地震比它们更大。
最大的地震是1960年袭击智利的9.5级地震，造成1,655人死亡，200万人失所，引起的
海啸在夏威夷、日本和菲律宾造成人员死亡。
美国地质调查局位于科罗拉多州果登市的国家地震信息中心(National Earthquake

中国正在筹建像钕这样的稀土矿产的战略储备
储备计划的详情尚未公开，但其轮廓已经浮现于中国政府机关、国有企业近期的表态和
官方媒体的报道之中。报道说，近几个月在内蒙古所建储备设施的容量，比中国去年出
口的39,813吨还多。
当今全球90%多的稀土供应都由中国控制。稀土是一系列金属的总称，常被划为17类，
因它们在激光制导武器和混动汽车电池等高科技产品中的重要性，有时候又被称为“21
世纪的黄金”。北京利用一项配额政策对稀土的出口实施了限制。
很多稀土矿并非稀有，而且中国也没有垄断任何一种具体稀土元素的储量。不过据美国

YANGON, Myanmar — Two strong earthquakes struck northeastern Myanmar less
than a minute apart Thursday night. They could be felt as far away as
Bangkok, but a tsunami was not generated.
The first 7.0-magnitude quake was just six miles deep, according to the U.S.

中国最引以为豪的建筑奇迹──三峡大坝项目正面临着山体滑坡和水污染等始料未
及的问题，从而使这个代表着中国改造大自然成果的项目遭到新的质疑。
三峡大坝主体工程一年前才竣工，大坝上游640公里的长江水域成为一个大水库。
而如今有地质学家称，三峡大坝拦截水量的庞大重力已开始在好几个地点侵蚀长江陡峭
的河岸。再加上水位波动频繁，因而引发了一系列的滑坡灾害，也使得像庙河这些大坝
附近的地区的地质结构被破坏。庙河是一个距离三峡大坝上游16公里的村庄。当地官员
担心，一旦整个山坡塌入水中，附近的居民将因此丧命，同时还会威胁到至关重要的长
江水道运输。
危险因素还不止这些。中国的科学家称，大坝阻挡了淤泥流向下游，使包括上海地
区在内的长江入海口收缩，海洋的咸水正在倒灌入内陆。世界自然基金会(World
Wildlife Federation)今春公布的一份报告称，通过大坝的水流速度目前正在加快，对
下游的防洪大堤造成破坏。未经处理的污水和化肥残留物被不断排入大坝水库，导致巨
