doubled in just two years in much of the United States.
Overdose deaths from powerful painkillers continue to be much more common,
but they declined slightly as the heroin deaths increased.

开。Christmas Eve下午出发，开到Bakersfield休息。圣诞夜的宾馆停车场冷冷清清。
第二天路上下起了阵雨，雨后的天空云彩绚丽。在彩虹的一路伴随下，我们继续向
Death Valley进发。沿途的风光赏心悦目。
Mosaic Canyon是我们访问Death Valley的第一站。这是一条狭窄的山谷，大理石质地
的谷壁，摸上去让人爱不释手。
开往Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes时，只见一路上风沙弥漫，遮天盖日，原来我们赶上了
沙尘暴。Death Valley在我们脚跟还没站稳之际，就给了我们一个下马威，让我们切身
感受这里的严酷环境。
沙丘们在沙尘暴中忽隐忽现。
漫步沙丘这时已经是不可能了。胆小如我者只能呆在车里隔着玻璃观景，胆大的也只能
站在路边远远观看。
紧接着的Devil's Cornfield立马给畏畏缩缩的我们上了一场生动的教育课。这些常年
在风沙干旱酷暑贫瘠的盐碱地中依然倔强生存的植物，虽然其貌不扬，名称不雅，但是
它们的存在本身就是生命顽强不屈的见证。 |

远千里开车过来的我们，自然也不会放过这Death Valley的招牌景观。从Furnace
Creek Ranch出发，大约只需要开15分钟就来到Zabriskie Point山脚下。我们到达时停
车场里已经聚集了不少车。再走几分钟坡路，就到了观景点。观众们分成两个梯队。呆
在高处观景台的第一梯队，以业余选手居多，空手观看，用心感受。
挤在低处土坡上的第二梯队，多为专业或伪专业人士，三角架在地面上一字拍开。本人
也混迹其中。
清晨的第一缕阳光，洒在远处积雪的Panamint Range上。近处的Amargosa Range，呈现
着奇异的色彩和形态。
当朝阳照亮Zabriskie Point的尖顶时，这个以“死亡”命名的国家公园顿时充满了蓬
勃的活力与生机。
回到旅馆睡了个回头觉，再出门时发现蓝天上白云朵朵，顿时觉得在这大好天气里蒙头

五月底的Memorial Day，我们计划了沿加州Hwy395的旅程，三天时间主要去了
三个地方，Death Valley National Park (死亡谷国家公园)、Mono Lake (梦挪湖) 、
Lake Tahoe (太浩湖)，中间还顺便“插”逛了一下June Lake Loop (六月湖环路)。这
趟行程走马观花、蜻蜓点水。倘若时间充足，慢慢玩，其实会更有意思。
从南加到Death Valley的路线是 405 or 5 —> 14 —> 395 。在14上路过Red
Rock Canyon SP，有一点点大峡谷的意思，不过规模和景色都比大峡谷差得远了。
