发帖数: 29053 | 2 今天第3次去Northwest Forest conference center照婚礼了，可是每次都在不同的地
方。Northwest Forest conference center里面有几个不同的结婚场所和reception
venue,最喜欢的是在室外那个，这场婚礼是在town hall.
虽然3次都不是在conference center里面同一个婚礼地方，但是既然碰到合作过的神父
的，还是神父认出了我呵呵
还没有时间处理，就奔几张给新娘的小样吧.很奇特的婚礼，没有first dance,没有
cake cutting,婚礼一结束就拉大队到一个室外的棚直接喝酒和PARTY. 可惜时间太紧，
婚礼后只有20多分钟让我照婚纱照。可惜啊，新娘挺漂亮的，很多景色都不能去。。。

CS领域里, 大家一般都是主要发conference paper.
除了少数比较新的P2P,网络方面的会议之外,大多数的
conference paper都是在10页到15页左右,而且是会议
格式排版,排的很紧凑,大概相当于ACM Transation
journal format的20页到30页左右.
一般来说,最新最重要的东西都是发在conference里,
等过了一段时间如果有机会(譬如收到journal的邀请),
会把以前发的会议paper稍微润色一下,再发一篇journal
paper.所以一般来说CS的journal paper都是以前发表过
的东西,觉得有一定保留价值,立此存照而已.
但也不是所有有保留价值的东西都会去发journal paper,
我们领域的一个大牛曾经对着一帮faculty说他已经不愿意
发journal paper了,主要是周期太长,花时间. Journal
editor可能会要求你把两三年前交的一篇journal draft里
再补上两个figure.但那时候你早都忘了你的experiment是

conference or workshop? But those people don't seem to be the chairs of
those conferences and it seems that they can use the money for their summer

醒过这种情况。
1. 两个相似的版本(即使extension满足journal的要求)，也不能同时在review的过程
中，否则就
是double submission.
2. 首先conference发表了以后,然后投journal，没有问题。但是反过来就不行。这是
很多
conference明确规定了的。
我觉得你可以从journal退稿，说明你以前没遇到这样的情况。 |

I will have a video conference interview with a school in England.
During the conference, I will need to give a presentation.
Are there any things that I should pay attention to?
Should I hook up my computer to the video conferencing equipment and the
people on the othe side see my presentation by TV?
Will my face and slides appear on their TV at the same time?
This is the first time I do video conferening presentation.
Any advice would be highly appreciated. |

you cannot submit the same paper to more than one conference, because MIS
conferences typically have proceedings, and proceedings mean copyright.
However, in finance/economics, we do it all the time with no problem.

间才能发表，我想我能不能先投conference,这样的话文章出来会早一些，以后的
citation也会多一些。但是如果conference录用后，我可能只能做一些很少的修改就投
journal,这样两篇文章看上去就差不多了。这样做可以吗？两篇发表的文章很类似。

过去的两年，我也是不断地给自己打鸡血，自己的论文研究一点儿都没拉下
现在有一个conference我想投，但是对于PhD学生，需要advisor写一封推荐信
昨天找了advisor找了一天，这个人不来办公室，问他推荐信的事，他一开始不同意给
我写，说对于我的研究不了解，他无法support一个他自己没办法confirm的东西。。。
后来，他给我5分钟时间，我在一个小黑板给了他做了一个文章模型框架的推导
最后，他同意给我写了，不过，他让我先一个底稿
昨晚上，我把推荐信底稿发给他了
说实话，我还真不知道该怎么写，它毕竟不是找工作的recommendation letter
底稿我写了一篇Word，也就500多字
开头写的是对于我自己的正面评价，我写了自己是他教过的最好的学生，也是我们系最
好的学生，未来的job market star之类的
接下来的两端，提了一下我准备投conference文章最好的两点

个时间去聊聊。这种就让人感觉很放心。
突然被一个学校邀请去人家入住的宾馆面试，最一开始的时候很犯嘀咕，就回信说那就
在lobby见面聊吧。结果人家说是在入住的房间。。。@^@.
我的感觉是这个太不正式了。。。有经验的前辈们，我是不是要找个理由拒掉这个面试
邀请？尤其是在不知道对方是几人，是啥性别的情况下。
我基本上是会找个理由拒掉这个邀请。。。有经验的前辈们给点意见，或者说有没有过

天时间screen二三十个候选人，好几十个学校都在同一时间，根本没那么多conference
room可用，很多学校就在房间面试了。如果你的是这种情况，就不用担心。 |
