好是用水做负重，下山的时候倒掉。给你个大致的我们的bench mark: 4 miles, 3300
ft, 2小时及格，1:30优秀。不是说你体能达不到就一定不能登，但是你如果能及格就
会有一定的saftey margin。登山不是跑road race，you can't go all out. when
things happen, rescue might not be immediately available, 即使是Rainier，
rescue也经常是days away
技术上，我们一般都很general的教alpine rock & glacier。我们用的教材是freedom
of the hills 8th edition。书的权威性我不做评价，大家见仁见智。我读过的书也不
少。craig connnally的the mountaineering handbook和cosley & houston的alpine

there is old climbers, there is bold climbers, there is no old and bold
climbers. fear is not your enemy, it's your friend, it's what keeps you sane
and alive. for a climber, fearlessness is stupid, period. there is

本人与朋友这个月long weekend去参加rmi的4 day rainier summit的登顶活动，感觉
压力很大，从负重（40－45lb）到trail的elevation gain等等，最近体力也不是很好
，背30lb的pack上mt. si非常痛苦。跟白人同事参加体育活动的经历让我担心会不会被
同行的白人壮男们健步如飞地拖死。很想听听中国人角度的意见。

Ford Explorer which has 125k miles on it. It had overheating problem for
years. Now that I want to get a new bike. So I replaced the radiator ($104
parts) and checked the thermostat in boiling water last weekend. Hopefully
this can take care of the overheating problem and I can keep driving this
truck for another 2-3 years. That would save me enough $$$ for a decent bike

发帖数: 2284 | 17 上周六，在VA的一个山间小镇Stanley有一场Page Valley Road Race。我提前一天，带
家人去Shenandoah National Park的skyline drive转了一圈，顺便瞻仰了一下去年本
版女神们骑过的路线。
周六一早溜下山，离skyline drive直线距离不到八英里，就是我们的比赛路线：每圈
10英里，其中两个大坡，尤其变态的是那个12%的陡坡，坡顶就是finish line。我们
cat4要求转5圈51英里。
第一圈，我嫌大家太慢，于是冲到前面设定了爬坡的速度。
第二圈，climber们清楚了对手的斤两，于是开始发威：轮流在坡上attack，把其他人
折磨得死去活来。
第三圈，climber们继续折磨大家，三分之二的人被front group drop掉了。
第四圈，climber们继续折磨大家，在最陡的那个坡上，我差点一口气没缓过来，还好
赶紧用了小宇宙，勉强跟上了。
第五圈，我在爬坡时两腿同时抽筋，在离终点两英里处被front group drop了，
climber们终于给我好好上了一课。
最后成绩是13 of 43.

举个具体的例子: 比如说一根绳子长60m, 在垂直岩壁上设置top rope,
岩壁高度是20m,所以实际使用绳子的长度是40m, 假定静态延展性是10%,
动态延展性是30%,40m的绳长延展性对于top rope climber来说,就是
至少4m(近似估算,并且忽略其他保护装置带来的延伸), 这就意味着在你
爬到4m高之前,如果你坠落了,你还是会碰到地. 同理,在leadfall时,绳
子延伸的更多. 这是dynamic rope的优点,但是也是缺点,使用的时候
要充分考虑到这个因素.

正确理解这段话，简单的算术似乎并不够：
CLIMBER如果不借助BELAYER的拉力(BELAYER也相对能够及时收
紧绳子的情况下)，此时绳子本身处于略有松弛的不受力状态，再加
上BELAYER不断收短绳子使dynamic elongation不断缩短的变
量，滑坠开始后绳子受力及对CLIMBER产生的反作用拉力的变量，
如果不考虑滑坠后在横向可能收到的钟摆式的撞击下，在0米和不到
12米的区间内，似乎应该有一个危险的最大值(SWEET SPOT)，这

发帖数: 2636 | 19 嗯，我一开始练的时候有教练，做了很多drill。大多数人没有耐心做这些drill。除非
很有天赋，不做drill的话很多人动作会难看。爬了一段时间再改就难了。我见过的大
多数climber多多少少都有这种问题。有些人爬到5.11/12了还做不少off-balance的不
动脑子的动作，力量再好，也不能提高了。
现在觉得，身边很多人在爬5.10的时候，男生日后能否成为5.13 climber，女生能否成
为5.12 climber，就能看出来了。我经常跟randome的人爬，从他在5.9/10 warmup，我
就能看出来他是不是一个5.12+climber。
动作是否正确，efficient，是从开始爬的第一天就需要打的基础。
我开始攀岩是从玩竞技，参加比赛开始的，天赋太差比赛成绩不好很打击人，也让我知
道了竞技这条路我走不通。不过一年的系统训练给现在打了坚实的基础。每个人玩法不
一样，但我始终觉得一开始就以几周爬5.10为目标，对大多数人来说不一定合适。除非
你有教练指导。 |

当然我自己是没有什么艰巨的远大目标的，
不过我所在的俱乐部也算是northwest最大的mountaineering club了。
从我个人对俱乐部和登山运动的理解看，不存在什么核心小组和后勤组这类事情。
现代登山运动总的来说更强调climbers的个人能力以及团队协作能力。
无论你要去爬什么山，你的climb team必须自己解决包括后勤在内的全部事情，
不会有别人为你们服务。如果你想爬座山，那你的能力不仅要cover这山的技术细节，
还要cover这些后勤和组织等方方面面的事情，这都是选择山峰时要考虑在内的事。
有的山虽然攀登技术不困难，但后勤等问题不容易，那综合难度就也不低。
climbers们就是根据自己的综合能力来选择适合自己的攀登山峰和climb partners。
当然入门级的climbers可能能力更差一些，很多时候做不出正确的判断，
club也针对这种情况制定了一些规范和指南，开设不同级别的课程和等级测试。
同时climb leader也会在攀登前对team成员作最后的把关。

Sunday until 7PM -ish. I did not notice sirens or anything during the day.
According to discussions on RC.com, gunks.com, they were top roping at the
very beginning of the cliff band. Position of the accident might explains
why I had no idea of it. Usually noone really climbs there unless it's
beginners messing around with some stuff.

the street. Use a 10-16x binoculars is good enough. It's quite easy to find
the climbers, just look up the nose.
Watching climbers on Snake Dike (half dorm), just drive to glacier point and
use the telescopes available there. You do need to know the route to find
the climbers. Otherwise, it will be hard to see any.
Either way, it doesn't seem 2-3lbs matter that much. |

收紧。据说爬难度route， climber最恨的就是要clip

year's Tour should be very familiar with him. Working as a domestique to
Wiggins (the winner), he still placed 2nd on the podium and proved himself
to be the strongest in the mountains without a doubt. In my eyes, this is an

赛。
这个比赛在我家西边两小时路程的Appalachia山脚下，名字叫FootHills Cup。既然叫
了这个名字，赛道就要爬上一个山脉的foot hill。整个赛道一圈十英里，4英里不带停
歇的平均5%上坡，4英里不带停歇的平均6%下坡，两英里的rolling hills。
我觉着自己虽然不算典型的climber，在我们队里，climbing 的能耐也还靠前，这个大
坡也许能够对付过去，尤其是对手们是4/5级别的选手。于是赛前我给一起参赛的队友:
：老G(我们队最好的climber）和小D(我们对最新的成员，这是他的第一个公路赛）吹
法螺说 - 我觉得自己能够至少跟上main field，如果运气和发挥好，也许可以和front
group混在一起。
想不到比赛一开始，出门就开始爬那个大坡，前面领路的climber们不停地push pace，
我在离坡顶四分之一英里的地方，一口气没接上来，被front group的十多个车手甩下

什么样的情况下需要用绳子保护? 垂直的岩壁, 冰壁, 暴露的陡坡.简言之,一切可能发

发帖数: 379 | 33 Snowking号称是North Cascade群峰里唯一一个无法从公路上望见的山峰，其remote程
度可见一斑。星期六早上6点从Bellevue出发，过了Marblemount 之后拐上unpaved的小
路，断断续续的被溪水冲断了好几个地方，high clearance的车勉强可以通过。我们在
最后一个挺深的wash out前面停了车，gear up，9点45分开始往里走。
最开始的1000ft左右的gain都是走在废弃的旧公路上，所以坡度很缓，两侧都是茂密的
树林，中间长着些野草。我们顺着旧时的车辙往里走，路很好认，也很好走。大约3mi
多的公路尽头，一块很小的平地，就是trail head。我们一个短暂的snack break之后
开始沿着climber’s trail往山上走。这次算知道什么是climber’s trail了：林间本
无路，走的人多了，也就成了路… climber好可怜的说>_< 前人留下的boot path基本
就是沿着山坡最陡的fall line往上的，很泥泞，漫山遍野的蚊子，不幸又闯了蚊子大
本营… 我没有去过mail box，据去过的人说，比mail |

发帖数: 2636 | 34 很不爽今天在gym爬快到顶的时候脱落了，穿的是tank top，后背在绳子上蹭得先是发
热，然后痛。晚上洗澡的时候发现已经鼓起来一条了。运气不好的话过两周这个rope
burn就要破，然后流脓水，最后留下又一个永久的疤痕。我手上腿上虽然大的rope
burn还没有，小的已经有好些了，而且都是老疤再也不会消失。
belay不光是抓着绳子不松手，一些细节很多人都不是太在意。比如我如果belay别人
toprope，起步的几米我会收得很紧，这样如果掉的话不会因为rope strech掉在地上崴
脚。石灰岩和砂岩的路线，很多的crux都是在起步。上面如果别人爬可能会摆荡，我会
靠墙站在一边，这样别人摆荡的时候不会撞在绳子上，或者在绳子上绕几圈。别人爬快
到顶的时候，我一定会挪到侧面去，这样绳子不会挡到爬的人，也不会在别人的后背弄
出rope burn。
如果是leading，就更specific了。很多人保护lead，不管是新手老手，前几个clip的
时候belayer都离岩壁老远，绳子还在climber的两腿之间。用脑子想一下climber要是

按道理应该是，belayer如果绳子slack太多，climber要喊tension，或者up rope,如果
这样，belayer还是跟不上，climber只能自己把攀爬的速度降下来。
另外，做top rope belay，如果对于普通climber来说，belayer的belay速度跟不上，
那肯定是技术问题，前面帖子里说的那个20秒爬上去的除外 |

如果belayer根本就没准备好，没给口令，climber当然不能爬
如果爬的过程中，belay的速度跟不上，这要分两种情况：
一个是belayer因为技术原因belay速度不行，或者因为什么事情要暂停，这时候要告诉
climber slow down，或者停下来
另一种是bleayer粗心马虎，绳子给的松松垮垮，不是因为技术问题或者什么事情，这
时候climber要告诉belayer 收紧绳子 |

use. Even the usual good climber can't, and also probably won't, climb
Grand Teton in a day. So it does not even matter whether he/she is a climber
. I only descended Owen Spalding once but I think even that involves a
couple pitches of easy 5th class. This is not the standard main trail hike
up to Whitney, which is by definition, a hike. |

安全：EPC还是很安全的。过去几年里由于贩毒分子作乱，EPC攀岩的人少了很多，但最
近治安好些了以后今年冬天人数又反弹回几年前的规模了。Monterrey街上有很多拿
machine gun的警察，尤其是天黑以后到处警灯闪耀，还是不要随便乱跑。听开车从美
国来EPC的人说，路上有人会偷你的车牌，然后要给钱才还给你。从Monterrey到
Hidalgo有bus，但没有bus到EPC，下了bus以后要走50分钟的上坡路。Taxi走toll road
的话只需要45分钟。不要从机场或者bus station临时叫出租车，司机一般不会说英文
或者找不到地方。所以比较安全的选择是飞到Monterrey，然后请Magic Ed http://magicedspotrerochico.com/来接。一般camp ground和house rental都提供接机服务。我们坐的是Magic Ed的车，他在EPC呆了20多年了，bolt了很多经典的路线。听老头讲八卦还是很有趣的。

serious runner，一跑就是一两个小时（那是热身！），还得天天跑；参加比赛得请假

大气的玫瑰都很占地盘，如果地方有限，建议千万别种climber.
俺家有好几种DA的玫瑰，不是climber就是高大的shrub型的. |

14+一盆。这不就是大家喜闻乐见的DA玫瑰嘛。记得花奴曾推荐过。立马抗了一盆。

大家表误会：虽然题目乍看是贴在花生版的文章，其实内容讲的是我上个周六的一场比
赛。
这个比赛在我家西边两小时路程的Appalachia山脚下，名字叫FootHills Cup。既然叫
了这个名字，赛道就要爬上一个山脉的foot hill。整个赛道一圈十英里，4英里不带停
歇的平均5%上坡，4英里不带停歇的平均6%下坡，两英里的rolling hills。
我觉着自己虽然不算典型的climber，在我们队里，climbing 的能耐也还靠前，这个大
坡也许能够对付过去，尤其是对手们是4/5级别的选手。于是赛前我给一起参赛的队友:
：老G(我们队最好的climber）和小D(我们对最新的成员，这是他的第一个公路赛）吹
法螺说 - 我觉得自己能够至少跟上main field，如果运气和发挥好，也许可以和front
group混在一起。
