No, "calm down" is the whole phrasal verb; "down" doesn't mean
"to a lesser degree". If "down" were to mean "to a lesser degree",
you would be able to omit "down" if you didn't want to express
the meaning "to a lesser degree". But you can't omit "down".

部分的内容都是来自Dr. Harvey Karp的光碟，http://www.happiestbaby.com/，也可以从Youtube搜到一些片断。主要的是用以下的五个S's：
1) Swaddle the baby
2) place the baby on his side or stomach;
3) shush him loudly;
4) swing or bounce him rhythmically;
5) give him something to suck on.
最令我惊讶的是他真的对着宝宝的耳朵大声地嘘，马上就把宝宝安抚好了。帮我们上课
的护士说新生的宝宝耳朵里还有残留物保护着，不会伤到耳朵。

最近买了个震动椅子，fisherprice calming vibration，睡在上面安稳了些。老公意
思是以后拍好奶直接放在震动椅子上睡，可是我担心在这椅子上长久睡着会对宝宝的脊
柱发育不好，虽然这个躺椅的角度也不算特别大，但是考虑到宝宝这么娇嫩。。。
