transparent, mainly in his Berkshire holdings. If he did not sell his
Berkshire shares, he did not realize the gain.
no tax on unrealized gains. buy some stocks you would know.
The 44M you see in his tax form is just some fringe income from other stuff
he just happened to hold. I d venture to guess each year, his unrealized
gain dwarfed the realized gains. But if he did not receive cash return, he
did not have to pay tax.

..it competes with others (e.g. private equity firms) to gain access to
sound business. Over the years, these businesses are willing to sell it to
Berkshire for a smaller price because they like Warren's reputation of
keeping his hand off managing their businesses (except the capital
allocation part). I don't think Bill Gates has that reputation...and he will
need to pay a price for it.

送作者一股BRKA,所以人缘比较好,大家不愿意拆他的台.
芒格有两大缺点. 一个是完全没有创造性,这跟他的偶像Franklin天壤之别. 他的所谓
worldly wisdeom就是到处抄袭别人的好的想法甚至于具体的说法. 第二个缺点就是他
完全抓不住重点. 所以在心理准则里,重复的就不知道有几条. 这一点跟Buffett有鲜明
的对比. 据说,当年Buffett刚买Berkshire Hathaway不久,有人向他推荐一套全新的纺
织机器生产设备,说能够提高生产率一倍什么的. Buffett当时的评论是,"I hope it is
not true, otherwise I will have to sell the business". 把握重点的能力简直无
与伦比.
芒格对于Buffett的价值在于他敢于说Buffett是错的,其它人受利益影响不那么敢说.
但他对普通投资界的价值就有限了. 有钱人中把自己当做哲学家的有的是,索罗斯的哲
学能力虽然也不怎么样,比芒格还是强多了.

Is SEQUX an actively-managed fund or passively-managed fund? It is a novel
idea that active managers must churn his portfolio, or his fund falls into
passive investment/funds, aka index funds, category. It is probably defined
in such a way in another planet, but not on our Earth. Many active funds
turnover ratio is low, including SEQUX. So? That did not make them passive

Now, Berkshire's book value is very close to the stock price. This is the

On the other hand, there are many risk factors associated with this stock.

巴菲特的成功绝对不是靠Berkshire Hathaway的股价从$7涨到$120000。当年巴菲特在
我这个年纪的时候曾倾家荡产$7操底账面价值为$13的Berkshire Hathaway， 但是单靠
这家纺织场他永远成不了今天的超级亿万富翁。如果你问巴菲特你为什么能这么成功，
他一定会说是因为他公司集团balance sheet上面的ROE常年维持25%以上。 其实不是
，巴菲特的成功归结于他收购了保险公司GECO，并且利用保险公司源源不断的cash
flow开始了他在花街长达45年的shopping, 而且不需要借钱。
现金是没用任何价值的，但是cash is king这句话也有它的道理， 因为cash能让你得
道你所需要的资本，没一块现金背后的机会成本是你不可估算的。 |

同为保险公司，巴菲特的Berkshire Hathaway净资产负债率是40%， 但HIG只有30%。
