第20届夏季奥林匹克运动会
the summer olympic games of 1972
第二十届奥林匹克运动会于1972年8月26日至9月11日，在德意志
联邦共和国的慕尼黑举行。
此前申请主办本届奥运会的城市还有美国的底特律、西班牙的马
德里和加拿大的蒙特利尔。1966年4月26日的国际奥委会第六十四届
罗马会议上，经投票表决，慕尼黑获胜，这是自罗马奥运会12年后奥
运会又再次回到欧洲召开。
慕尼黑是一座优美、宁静的历史文化名城，1214年形成城市，逐
渐发展为德国艺术文化中心，市内保存有许多中世纪和文艺复兴时期
的建筑，尤以古老教堂著称，是前联邦德国巴伐利亚的首府。现城区
人口 129万，远郊区230万，工业发达，著名的西门子公司总部设于
此。所产啤酒有名，每年10月举行慕尼黑啤酒节，热闹非凡。
慕尼黑是个文化古城，拥有众多的博物馆和音乐剧院，但缺乏现
代体育设施。为了使第二十届奥运会能顺利进行，筹委会花了6亿多
美元，兴建了豪华的体育设施群。其中包括一个可容8万观众的运动
场、可供1～1．5万运动员住宿的奥运村、一个有1万观众席位的游泳
馆、有1．3万个看台位子的赛车场等。
