第17届夏季奥林匹克运动会

第十七届奥林匹克运动会于1960年8月25日至9月1日意大利首都
罗马举行。
申请本届奥运会的有：希腊的雅典、比利时的布鲁塞尔、匈牙利
的布达佩斯、阿根廷的布宜诺斯艾利斯、瑞士的洛桑、巴西的里约热
内卢、日本的东京、墨西哥的墨西哥城和美国的底特律、洛杉矶、明
尼阿波利斯、纽约、旧金山、费城、芝加哥及意大利的罗马共16个城
市。罗马历尽险阻，终于战胜众多对手，赢得第十七届奥运会的承办
权。
古罗马建成已有几千年的历史，跨台北河两岸，为意大利首都和
第一大城市。2600年前，罗马帝国以征服者的姿态将古奥运会从希腊
奥林匹亚移到罗马，而今天罗马又燃起了象征和平与友谊的奥林匹克
火焰。罗马城徽是一个奇特的图案——母狼哺乳婴儿。据《罗马史诗
》记载，罗马人始祖伊尼德的后代罗慕路是由一只母狼喂养大的，城
徽上母狼哺乳的两个婴儿中的一个，就是传说中的罗马城第一位国王
罗慕路，第十七届奥运会会徽的主要标志就采用了罗马城徽。
罗马作为一座古老的城市，以它闻名世界的名胜古迹而著称于世
