Today's Dow +200 rally actually affirms the bear market thesis. Let me
explain. According to the stock market almanac it is especially common for
the 'Turnaround Tuesday' effect to manifest itself during times of
uncertainty. Back in 2013 when Europe's sovereign debt crisis was spooking
the market we had a string of 15 consecutive Tuesday's with positive
performance. During the 2007-2009 bear, Tuesday action was a net gainer.
It seems statistically impossible for Tuesday's to outperform in times of
uncertainty but it happens again and again. Nobody wants to be long into
the weekend and Monday's are the worst day of performance. Thus, Tuesday's
get the volatile rallies. It's a key characteristic of bear markets. Any
guess as to what day May 10th with its +210 rally was? Yes, it was a
Tuesday. That week the Dow finished -393 from the Tuesday high.
