left edge or inner right edge in MOST of the time.
You can still ski by distributing your weight on both feet, but you cannot
ski very smoothly and stable in this way.
Powder ski is a little different, because you need better floatation.
Mogul ski may be also have some exeptions, but I do not know.

theory based on what my mentor and pro-skier told me. That's why I always
swap my left and right skies in the middle of the day to even the edge torn.
Also cannot understand if it's 50/50, how experts can do one-footed? It
should be 100/0, isn't it?

other pro skier, am I right?
However, the weight shift is so subtle that cannot be easily know by
obsering other one's pose. Sometimes it looks very like the skier put his
weight evenly on his both feet, but actually he doesn't.
BTW, don't need to be an expert, it is very easy to do one-footed skiing...

发帖数: 1285 | 23 bigh - If you are an expert skier, then you know why I say 50/50 instead of
80/20. The weight distribution of 70/30 (or 80/20) is what we tell
recreational skiers to put more weight on outside ski's inner edge in order
to leverage the parabolic shape of skis to make easy turns.
To "swap my left and right skies in the middle of the day" is a good
practice, and I do that too.
The weight distribution of 50/50 is for perfect carving. One drill of the
racing or carving training is called "White Pass Turns" by carving on the
outside edge of the inside ski, and you can imagine that it is not easy (
almost impossible for general recreational skiers). Once a racer masters
the White Pass Turns, then s/he will practice one-footed skiing. Literally,
s/he can take off a boot (of course that ski is off too), and do perfect
carving on the other ski.
My mentor can do one-footed mogul skiing and even faster than me skiing on
two skis.

stunning. You are a racer. So it is not just 50/50. It is a x/y at will, a
body balance as superior as a good ice skater.

If you do carving, your weight should be on both edge with the downhill edge
more weight. But if you keep facing down and make you turn without any
direction change, you in fact put 70/30 or 60/40 weight on each ski. You
should turn by bent your knees and close a turn by moving an up lead by
waist and knees but not lift your leg.
That is my two cents about ski.

that said, snowboarder and skier do sometime have different preferences, one
example is moguls, hard for snowboarders to enjoy. and there are many
mountains that do ski only, like alta, i guess they have a reason, anybody
knows why? |

After talking to many trainers and examiners, I want to take back what I
said about weight distribution. It is NOT 50/50 at all. The outside ski
always dominates. The significance of the inside ski is that it plays a
very important role for directing the turn. Therefore, a good skier needs
to know how to ski with inside ski, but, again, the outside ski still
dominates. |
