interesting
and very good written.
This is a story of galactical scope, similar to the Asimov
settings.
However, the Universe is not an normal sci-fi space we get
from
other works. It is a world of hierarchy. There is Slowness,
Beyond, Transcendent, and higher hierarchy. The division of
the
Universe seems artificical, the higher civilizations and
species
are more like gods to the lower part of the Universe.

I'd recommend "A Deepness in the Sky" to anyone who finishes
"A Fire upon the Deep." It talks about three thousand years
ago when Pham Nuwen was still a legendary hero in the human
kind inter-stellar space. It's not as rich or thougt-provoking
as "A Fire upon the Deep," but still full of interesting
ideas and storylines.
One interesting observation:
"A Fire upon the Deep" was written in 1992, the dawn age of
the web, when the author could easily envision a galactical
usenet.
