First of all, the rifts in ethnic communities are not created by our
campaign against SCA5, but rather by the authors and supporters of SCA5. It
is SCA5 that aims to restore racial discrimination in California’s higher
education system, thus igniting the strong opposition from Asian Americans.
The whole article seems to paint a picture, that in the fight against SCA5,
Chinese-Americans are pit against not only other minorities, but also other
communities within Asian-American family. This is simply not a right picture
. In fact in the chart inside the article, five of the seven Asian-American
groups have higher admission rate to UC than the white, so they will surely
be negatively impacted should SCA5 become reality. And the number of
Filipino admission rate seems not matching the raw data from UC Office of
the President:
http://www.ucop.edu/news/facts...
My calculation of Filipino-American admission rate in 2013 is 60% (3052/5125
), 3% higher than the number in your chart, and very close to the average
admission rate of all students 63%.
Also I think admission rate is not an accurate way to reflect student
population, because one student can apply for multiple UC campuses and get
multiple offers thus counted as multiple applications and admissions, and he
/she may not enroll at any of them at all. The whole idea of SCA5 is to help
“under-represented” minorities. The definition of “under-represented”
is that a minority group’s share in university is smaller than its share in
high school graduates. Using this method, Filipino-American’s share in
California high school graduates in 2009 is 3.34% (source: http://www.cpec.ca.gov/Student..., while its share in UC campus enrollment is 4.76%, well above its high school graduates share, so Filipino-Americans are clearly not under-represented in UC and will not benefit from SCA5.
In short, all Asian American groups except Pacific Islanders in the chart
more or less have over-representation as Chinese Americans, and nothing is
wrong with this because they earn their spots in UC through hard-working and
dedication.
In fact dividing Asian-Americans in sub-groups and try to pit one against
another is not a good argument for SCA5, because it does not alter the truth
that the vast majority of Asian-American population will still be
discriminated under SCA5, also because preference based on sub-groups is
just not workable. Asian-Americans look like one another, it’s not
verifiable that an applicant is from a particular Asian sub-group. Also how
to treat students with multiethnic background, which is very common within
Asian-American community? For the sake of fairness, shall we divide Latinos
into Cuban, Chilean or Mexican Latinos because they all have different
representation in UC? What about Caucasians? There are about 50 counties now
in Europe.
Also to my surprise is the claim that Chinese-Americans support affirmative
action in hiring. I don’t know what is the basis for such a claim, but it
is certainly not true for Chinese Americans in Silicon Valley. From my
personal experience of 14 years working in Silicon Valley, all my current
and former colleagues here are hired solely based on merits, and we Chinese
Americans here are firmly against any type of racial discrimination in
employment. I believe color-blindness is one of the reasons that Silicon
Valley becomes the center of world innovation, and produced companies like
Google, Apple and Facebook. | n****l 发帖数: 6652 | 2 ding一个。说得有点太温柔。。。

用族裔去套录取率根本错了。这和政治不正确的族裔套智商有区别吗?

groups and considered itself part of the elite, "whiter" groups not only in

Even gays and lesbians walk on streets with their political belief printed
on their head. There is no shame of doing so.
Hiding the fact and purpose of the anti-SCA-5 movement by the highly-
educated Chinese ethnic group is like 此地无银三百两。Have some guts and
